22oz bottle. Pours a black color with ruby hues and over 2 niches of frothy khaki colored head. The aroma is lots of red wine and wood but with cocoa, raisins and coffee as well. A bit sour but also sweet from the chocolate aromas. The taste is cocoa and red wine. Raisins, light and sweet coffee and some wood. Earthy. The wine and chocolatey flavors pair well. Slightly sour, red wine finish with more dark chocolate notes. Almost reminds me a bit of chocolate covered cherries. Heavily carbonated. Overall, I was somewhat skeptical about this one but I took a chance and I'm glad I did. I'd be interested to see how this one ages, if I get the chance.

Picked up a 22oz bomber ($10.00) last month while visiting the brewery. Did a side-by-side with their bourbon barrel version yesterday (12SEP15) with Alewife out in The 'Zebo....

Poured into a small tulip, it was a jet-black brew with a healthy, frothy, mousse-like mocha head. It sat at about an inch for a bit before ebbing, with nice lace on the glass. Carbo was steady and active. Aroma was distinctly winey, with some notes of raisin and dates. It was quite smooth, and a touch over medium for body.

Flavor had a bit of choco and cocoa, but was predominantly tasting of dark fruit. Had some raisin, currant and date action going on before getting a smidge floral at the finish. Solid but not other-worldly. Prosit!!

22 oz bottle. Dark brown body, huge foamy off-white head. Aromas of cheap wine, oak and roasted barley. Flavor is a bit tannic, semi-fruity red wine, and quite dry. Mouth feel is terrible, fizzy and over-carbonated.

Pours a dark black with a tan/beige head. Smell and taste are of chocolate, raisin, red wine, slight hints of oak, some coffee, roasted barley, and hints of...marshmallow? Very nice. One thing holding this back is the carbonation is a bit much, but some swirling in the glass takes care of that and smooths it out.

L - dark brown with glowing amber fringes. Fluffs up with a monster head... looks nice but I'm worried about the carbonation!

S - sweet sickly candied orange. Maybe some slight vinous hints of the red variety.

T - dark fruit, plums, raisins, cherries. Sweet chocolately grape flavor. Oak with some bitter coffee in the finish. Smooth and elegant, likely thanks to the wine!

F - thankfully the carb wasn't as bad as I was expected! A smooth drinking brew, creamy.

O - Rock Art typically ain't much to write home about, but man I love their stouts. They always go hard and they are delicious.

This beer poured a dark black color into my tulip glass with a huge tan foamy head on top.
The nose is of dark fruits and berries with some chocolate overtones. The head disappeared slowly as the beer warmed a little from the 50* temperature it was stored at in my cooler.
The taste is smooth the tannins from the wine barrel giving this beer a dark cherry and chocolate flavor this plus the charred oak gives it a great smoothness. It is perhaps a little strong on carbonation for my taste in this style of beer. I let the glass sit for about 30 minutes to warm a little and the carbonation settled out nicely. At this point this went from a good beer in my book to one that I need to get a lot more bottle of as I feel it will age great.
The mouthfeel is a little high on carbonation in the beginning but perhaps to let this breathe for 30 minutes before pouring would do the trick.
This as it is a very good beer much better IMO than the listed rating on this site so far. Like I said I will return early in the week and get some more bottles to cellar. I think IMO again the Rock Art Brewing sometimes doesn't get the love they should and this beer is one that should be enjoyed by all.

Pours a black viscous and vinous looking color, moderate tan head and thin lace.
Smell is of dark fruit; berries, cherries and wine like.
As with the aroma, the red wine like and dark fruit nature predominates without overpowering. It still retains beer like qualities. There is also a chocolate like taste. The alcohol is so well masked, I do not taste it.
I had the complete opposite reaction to many reviews here that it is over carbonated. On the contrary, I found the carbonation to be very soft. The feel is on the low side of full. Vinous yet drinkable.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was excellent.
