My can now refers to it as "Nawch Hoppa" instead of "Notch Hopper." Not sure if there were trademark issues or just a change of heart. In any case, on to the review.

Pours a slightly hazy, orange color with a nice off-white head. Aroma is very familiar, yet very satisfying. Smells like sweet grapefruit with resinous pine. Very nice. Taste is also very familiar, but very satisfying. The hop profile is grapefruit juice with pine much like the aroma. The malt profile is amazing. Sweet without being overpoweringly malty. Great balance! Mouthfeel is medium with nice carbonation. The can says 77 IBU's, but as it warms, the bitterness is spot on.

I really like this beer. As I've already mentioned, it's very familiar, meaning it tastes like other great Vermont IPA's. Is that a bad thing? Maybe, maybe not. Yeah, maybe they haven't invented any new hop combination or process which provides an IPA we haven't had before, but they have created a VERY satisfying hoppy beer that is fairly easy to obtain when it's in rotation. Well done!

If you are up in northern VT and don't want to wait on line or be treated condescendingly by the shopkeeper when you ask for sold out Heady Topper or Lawson's, this is an excellent substitute, available at convenient stores, gas stations, and the brewery itself (no line and great friendly couple who sell local artwork as well as great beer). Spend the day hiking instead of hunting. Then treat yourself to some of this. The Limited Session dipa is similar in quality and profile.

I have enjoyed many a fresh can - piney, resinous, tropical. The malt profile is just right for me, not very thick or dark but a nice palate for the hops to shine. I enjoy this one more than the highly coveted IIPAs that sell out immediately. My FAVORITE BEER (at this point in my life)! :)
