We brewed this one because we just can't get enough of those hops. IPA's seem to be a great choice any time of the year. They have a great malt flavor and hop profile, just what a beer connoisseur is looking for. We decided to give this one a bit more hops.
Cascade, Amarillo, Mosaic, Azacca, and Simcoe hops round out this delicious IPA with a nice malt flavor.
80 IBU

Thanks to GoSox8787 for sending me a bottle of Rock Art Belvidere Big IPA as an extra in a recent trade.
The beer is a burnished copper amber color, darker than I would've expected, this is more of what I expect from an imperial amber. The head is very minimal a fair bit of sticky lacing, but virtually no cap of foam even with a rough pour. The beer smells very malty (too malty) with the hops very subdued and just a hint of soapy hops. The beer tastes very, very sweet up front--almost cotton candy sweet. Then there is a bit of medicinal and herbal bitterness that finishes with an astringent resinous bitterness. This is a little too syrupy for me and I would prefer a DIPA with more fresh, C-hop citrusy, floral, fruity flavor and much less of the heavy, piney notes, especially in the finish.

Out of the bomber and into my snifter, it poured a beautiful hazy orange and left the same color body. A half centimeter white foamy head concaves gently into the body. The smell had rich fruity notes up front with hops backing it up very strong. Malts were more subdued. The taste was pretty much the same. The palate was about a medium with some slight sharpness on the tongue. At 8% for the ABV, the alcohol was fairly hidden well which lead to fairly sessionable beer. Overall, this would be a hop forward double IPA, I liked it more the second time I had it.

From the bottle, it pours a clear amber with a modest head. Lots of lacing as you enjoy it. Malt and tropical fruit in the nose. The mouth enjoys the IPA bitterness without too much hop bitterness! Yum!

From a 22oz. bottle, dated 01/28/16. Served in an oversized tulip.
Pours a hazy, glowing pumpkin color with a modest, short-lived head and a fairish amount of fine, sticky lacing.
Smells of clean, sweet malts, clementine, grapefruit and jungle flowers.
Taste follows the nose but the alcohol has an unfortunate tendency to manifest itself as faint diesel vapors in the sinuses.
Medium bodied, resinous, well carbonated.
Overall, a serviceable beverage. Interesting and unusual and, although I feel like I got my money's worth, I don't know that I'll revisit it.
