BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Rock Art Brewery
Vermont, United States
rockartbrewery.com

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We brewed this one because we just can't get enough of those hops. IPA's seem to be a great choice any time of the year. They have a great malt flavor and hop profile, just what a beer connoisseur is looking for. We decided to give this one a bit more hops.

Out of the bomber and into my snifter, it poured a beautiful hazy orange and left the same color body. A half centimeter white foamy head concaves gently into the body. The smell had rich fruity notes up front with hops backing it up very strong. Malts were more subdued. The taste was pretty much the same. The palate was about a medium with some slight sharpness on the tongue. At 8% for the ABV, the alcohol was fairly hidden well which lead to fairly sessionable beer. Overall, this would be a hop forward double IPA, I liked it more the second time I had it.

From the bottle, it pours a clear amber with a modest head. Lots of lacing as you enjoy it. Malt and tropical fruit in the nose. The mouth enjoys the IPA bitterness without too much hop bitterness! Yum!

From a 22oz. bottle, dated 01/28/16. Served in an oversized tulip.

Pours a hazy, glowing pumpkin color with a modest, short-lived head and a fairish amount of fine, sticky lacing.

Smells of clean, sweet malts, clementine, grapefruit and jungle flowers.

Taste follows the nose but the alcohol has an unfortunate tendency to manifest itself as faint diesel vapors in the sinuses.

Medium bodied, resinous, well carbonated.

Overall, a serviceable beverage. Interesting and unusual and, although I feel like I got my money's worth, I don't know that I'll revisit it.

22 oz bottle purchased at the Dunkin Donuts in Milton for $4.59. Poured into a teku. Pours an almost clear light-amber with two finger white head that dissipates rather quickly leaving a thick ring and plenty of lace. Aroma is hard to describe...somewhat earthy and resiny but with some mango and pineapple. The taste is thick with resiny but fruity hops followed by a healthy dose of malt and finishing with a bitter bite. Mouth is a little on the full side. Overall, a nice and interesting IIPA, with a bit of an out-of-the-ordinary hop profile and a little on the heavy body side, but definitely worth the reasonable price.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on May 26, 2015.

The pour is a murky looking copper-amber with reddish hues and a moderate of-white head that lingers and laces.

What do you want from an IPA aroma? Roasted malts, resin, floral sensations? That's what I get.

Medium to better than medium body. Almost heavy.

The flavor has a nice roasted malt character to start bu the resiny and forest hops roll in to evolve into a moderately bitter conclusion. No booze in the taste but its effects were felt in my head.

Vermont has so many good breweries tucked away in these small towns. Rock Art tends to get out more because I expect they have a distributor. But Rock Art brews are usually pretty decent.
