Wow, what a remake! The city's "grittiest" rock club cleaned up (but not too much) and with usable bathrooms. Who'd a thunk it?

I had not been to the old Khyber in probably 20 years, but as best I knew it was still a scary dump, albeit with good beer. The initial concept for the remake was as an izikaya; I am happy to say they ditched that and went for cajun food and great craft beer.

We grabbed a couple of seats at the bar early on a Saturday afternoon. Great welcoming vibe. The Khyber has had a few layers of grit scraped off but has not been scrubbed to a shiny white. A few layers of grime remain.

The beer lineup was heavy on RIS as that was the theme for the day (with cool "Tsar Power" t-shirts for only $7; awesome). All great choices from locals like Dock Street Prince Myshkin's to the first 2011 tapping of KBS. We could have stayed all day, but for the need to make it home without passing out.

Food was quite delicious. Bacon grease popcorn with cajun spices made for a delicious appetizer (served in a brown bag so you could see the grease spots develop), followed by a chicken poboy which was also quite tasty (grilled chicken is not, of course, the recommended protein for a poboy; will check back in 40 pounds for a proper poboy with debris, just like they serve in Nola).

Service was prompt and friendly. We loved this place and will visit again soon.

Vibe: A bit dark for my tastes, but I got used to it after a bit. Lots of beeriana about, very welcoming.

Selection: Nice, well thought out selection of local/regional/national brands and various styles.

Service: Female bartender very attentive and sweet. Knew a lot about beer too. Manager stopped by too, was cool, offered free samples of various beer.

Food: Southern smoked BBQ. Had the brisket Sammy which was very tasty. Hand cut fries undercooked first try, had to send back. 2nd try were fine.

Enjoyed my visit here, would definitely prioritize on a return visit to Philly.

Kyber was the first stop for what promised to be a full day leading up to the Eagles game. Kyber is a local institution having survived while many of their neighbors have come and gone. Has that dive bar feel which is great except they could add a little lighting and still retain the "feel".

Great beer selection with around 20 taps including Cigar city always one of my favorites! Extensive bottle selection however never get past the tap list.

Service was great, but the food was just mediocre and not up to standard, otherwise a must stop when in old city.

Made a late night/early morning visit. Small place, but excellent selection. Two English cask ales plus ~20 more on tap with some tougher to find brews. Outstanding food. Good service.

Love the vibe at this beer-focused bar. They had several Cantillon bottles available (Gueze and a few others), and lots of variety when it comes to draft.

Food is top-notch as well - don't be fooled by the divey-ness of this place - take a chance and eat here along with drinking - you won't be disappointed.

I'd rate it higher if the staff were better. If you're looking for a good help experience - walk around the corner to Eulogy. Our waiter didn't know Cantillon from Sierra Nevada, but was a nice guy all and all (when he was paying attention to us, anyway).

A good hole in the wall place. Not very well lit, but certainly cozy and clean. Extensive beer selection on tap – never got a bottle menu but understood the bottle menu to be extensive as well. The place smelled just right of smoked BBQ, and for a place this far north, they hit southern style pulled pork perfectly – it needed no sauce. Just right smoke flavor, hint of spice, and not at all dry. Very good food. With happy hour – 2 beers and a full pulled pork platter - $23. Very good pricing.

Had a Wookey Jack Black IPA on draft and a Wells Bombardier from Cask.

Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon and the fisrt thing I noticed was the place was very dark. Big wooden bar seats about 20 and there are a bunch of tables in the room. Two large TVs showing college football games. Loads of Belgian beer flags and beer signs line the walls.

There were about 20 beers on draft that covered a nice mix of styles. Service was good and friendly depsite the large afternoon crowd. Defintely a cool place to stop in Old City.
