What an interesting beer!

This "Brett IPA" is unlike any other beer I can remember.

It's an amber colored beer, with nice head and lacing. It's a beer that is a little sweet and pretty funky.

I wouldn't have known this was an IPA. I don't get much hoppiness, and no real bitterness. The Brett influence is dominant.

But somehow the whole effect of the beer is to make me go "Wow, that is seriously tasty."

Because the beer doesn't fit any conventional categories (at least in my experience), it's really a tribute to the brewer's creativity. The Big Al folks have managed to make a beer that is both exceptionally tasty and wholly original.

Appearance: Arrives with an impressive head capping the clear copper liquid; sheets of lace coat the pint glass as the beer is consumed

Smell: Caramel, leathery funk and pine

Taste: A modest taste of caramel, up front, with leathery funk developing quickly; in the middle, piney and floral tones remind the drinker that this is an IPA at its heart; the finish is dry with the funk lingering to some extent

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A creative beer fermented 100% with Brett; well-balanced and a joy to drink
