When it comes to craft beer in Red Deer, there are very few decent options. Fortunately, Liquor Crossing is clearly the best option. The selection is amazing and owner Blair Gaume is always looking to bring in new products. If you want to talk beer, see Blair - he is always willing to help out. Posted prices include tax and deposit, so you pay exactly the price on the label - this is a rare thing in this day and age. The best part of buying from the Liquor Crossing is the knowledge that you are supporting a family-run local business instead of a chain like LD, Sobeys or Solo.

Update - fall 2017 - added a growler station - 5 rotating taps!

It's taken forever to get around to reviewing this place!

While in Alberta over the summer ('08), I had a fair bit of trouble finding places in the Red Deer area with a decent selection of craft brews. Places like Calgary and Edmonton are doable, but a couple hours of travel, and that's never all too convenient.

After a fair bit of searching, I had Liquor Crossing suggested to me, and it was the best place I had found. A "word of warning" - there are two locations in the city, within a couple of blocks of one another, but they are no longer affiliated. While the other has a reasonable selection, this is the location a little deeper INTO the city... not the one further out, and it is probably the best beer spot I could find outside of the major cities.

A nice little selection of primarily Western Canadian craft offerings were to be found along with some American brews. They shine a little more in their European imports carrying some decent English, Belgian, and German beers. Being as it has been half a year now since going there, I forget much of what I purchased at the store, but I do recall that I was able to find Rochefort 10 for a little cheaper than I find it here in VA (I think it was $6.49 CDN per bottle). In a place where 6 packs of beer can be $18 for fairly 'standard fare,' this was a nice sight.

Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful... it doesn't seem like a great deal of craft beer drinkers go there on a regular basis so they appeared to be rather intrigued having one in the store. Having remembered that I had not brought up any glassware with me and having HORRIBLY scratched faux crystal at my family's place, I asked if they had any suggestions as to where to find any decent glassware. They provided some helpful selections and offered me a pair of Warsteiner flutes/pilsners. I haven't used them yet, but it was a very kind gesture nonetheless that I appreciated.

If in this area, it's the place to be. I know I'll skip the circus of searching around next time I'm up and go straight here (when I'm not in the bigger cities, that is!)
