A pretty traditional-seeming pub on top of a hill right next to Inverness castle. This is a fairly small place, warm-feeling and wooden with indoor and outdoor seating with a spectacular view. They have a restaurant (I'm guessing just extra seating upstairs. They have four hand pumps, some local and bigger beers on tap as well as a full bar and a respectable selection of whisky. The service was good and the beers were very nice. Not the biggest selection I saw in my extremely short experience (I feel stupid even alluding to myself knowing anything about this), but I can say it seemed to be the best selection in Inverness and was a nice time all-around. Very good food too, and you really can't beat the view, which bumped the vibe up a quarter point.

stopped for a pint and a bit of food while in Inverness. Sat outside to enjoy the view of the castle and river, even though it was chilly. It was packed during an early Friday evening. Bartenders were still helpful and friendly.

4 beers on cask, good selection. The prawn starter we ordered was quite good.

The setting of this tavern is fantastic, overlooking the River Ness in Inverness. The pub is quaint and had several cask ales on tap including Thrappledouser ( a great red ale) and Wildcat.

The service was good, the beer was local Scottish, and the setting was what I imagined Scotland would be like. We spent a few hours simply taking in the relaxed and eclectic patrons and Scottish ales. The pub serves food, and it looked great, but we had already eaten.

This pub has extensive outdoor seating as well facing the modern 'castle.'. Does food, had 3 different plates and found the salmon to be excellent, other dishes good as well.

has 5 pumps, of 4 tried one evening, all were in very good condition. Mostly highland/scottish breweries when I was there.

This is one of a few pubs that should be a part of any real-ale oriented pub visits if you are in Inverness.

Visited Dec 08.

It's a small place tucked in a corner near the castle, uphill a block or two from most of the businesses. It has a cozy bar downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. The restaurant was empty, so we squeezed into the bar. It was pretty full, which doesn't take more than a dozen people, but we found room to stand for a beer. They had 4 on tap, I believe, from Scottish brewers in a variety of styles. Yes, there is a TV, but I ignored it and soaked in the atmosphere of this tiny gem. I really loved the place, and envy those from Inverness who can make it their local.

This pub has been recommended to me on several occasions, so on a recent visit to Inverness I tried it out.

The pub had 5 real ale taps, with the majority of these Scottish beers from independent breweries. The beer quality was very good, I stayed and sampled all the available ales.

The bar was busy for a wednesday night, however I thought that the music was too loud and they had MTV on mute, this is a pet hate of mine, if a TV is on mute then put on something that can be watched without sound, possibly sport but not a music channel.

The owner was very friendly and did recommend some of the other good real ale bars around. The atmosphere was also friendly. It was very busy in the earlier pasrt of the evening with people ordering meals, however I did not try one as I had already eaten.

The pub holds a beer festival every year in september that is worth checking out as it puts on even more beer on a temporary bar.

A good pub with great beer, I wish they would turn the music down, but maybe I'm just getting older and want a quieter pint.

Worth a visit, but cancel the plans for the evening.
