Notes / Commercial Description:
Winterhook is the perfect beer to keep warm during cold months after shoveling snow, shredding some powder, or playing hooky to can catch the game. Since it was first brewed, Redhook’s Winterhook has changed slightly each year to celebrate the season and keep everyone on their toes. After all, no one likes getting the same gift twice.

The 31st version of Winterhook brewed for this year offers a rich caramel body that balances a big malt backbone with the aggressively dry hopped brew, making this year’s winter ale slightly naughty and very nice.

A: Pours a crystal clear mahogany in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate amber + garnet red highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy foamy beige head that reduces to a couple of small patches of medium thick film (made up of medium to larger sized bubbles) with a medium sized patch of very thin film and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of roasted, toasted, and caramel malts with a light amount of sweetness. Light aromas of rye spiciness with a hint of dark fruit (plum).

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of roasted, toasted, and caramel malts with a light amount of dark fruit (plum) sweetness. That is followed by a light to moderate flavor of rye spiciness. Light amounts of citrus/grapefruit rind hops with a light amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Hints of dryness in the finish.

O: A little hoppier than I expected for a winter beer and a little thin in the body as well. Not bad and easy enough to drink but I don't think I will be grabbing any more of these.
