Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The generous addition of hops both during and at the end of the fermentation process (dry-hopping) gives our India Pale Ale its characteristic bitterness and piney citrus aroma and flavor. The medium body, crisp finish, and moderate alcohol and IBU levels makes this one of America’s most drinkable and best-selling IPAs.

Appearance: clear, dark straw to gold, nice head didn't last long

Aroma: light malty aroma, strong very apparent fresh hop aroma (like smelling fresh hop cones)

Flavor: strong fresh green hop flavor (just like how the fresh hop aroma would taste), very clean no off flavors, finish brings a little of a light grain flavor, bitterness is apparent but smooth not harsh.

Texture: medium body, semi dry, moderate carbonation, oily feeling on tongue lingering

Overall: good beer, was definitely surprised about how fresh and green the hop aroma and flavor is and even more surprised that it is not harsh but pleasant. Really shows the full flavor of the hops.

A: crystal clear; medium gold in color; 2 finger ivory head that receded to a thin cap; nice lacing;

S: not especially aromatic; smells more like a pilsner that an IPA;

T: not a lot of flavor; floral with grain in the background from start to finish; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: easy drinking, but not comparable to what we're now used to in an IPA:

My go to beer. An afordable IPA that has the Pine notes I look for. Certainly not the best IPA but if you want an easy to drink afordable IPA with a hint of pine, this is the beer for you.

Oh my, the taste of these suds are like when my mother would rudely wash my mouth out with soap mixed with the mod fruit seltzer of the now....ugh....oh well, at least there are some other options behind this one.

Shared a few of these with my father. On the nose I get piney and floral hops with earthy,sweet,and caramel malts. Not much else,kind of a subdued and uneventful aroma, though not unpleasant. Flavor of sweet and caramel malts up front, flowed by piney hops and floral hops balanced by more malts on the back end. Feel is medium with a dry finish. Seems like and old school classic NW IPA.

Appearance: pours a filtered light golden with one finger white head and generous bubbles from an IPA glass.

Smell: A little metallic. Some citrus and hops.

Taste: a bit underwhelming. Has some hop and piney flavors but to me it needs more hops and citrus for an IPA.

Feel: carbonation Is good. Easy drinking.

Overall: I prefer more bitterness and hops from an IPA. This seems more of a regular ale to me.

Production date 23 February 2017 clearly stamped on label; decanted into a shaker pint.
A: Slightly cloudy, amber to light copper color with white quarter inch head that dissipates quickly, but which leaves sold lacing.
S: Medium malts with aroma of citrus, clove, and pine.
T: Nicely balance of malts and bitter hops, with lemon and pepper notes.
M: Light to medium bodied, with nicely persistent effervescence.
O: I have been less impressed with the other offerings from Red Hook, but this IPA is a nicely constructed and balanced. A winner.

I love all of this brewery's stuff. Visited the Seattle brewery in the dawning days of the craft brew revolution. It was a fun and tasty experience. I like the ESB they make the best.
