Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The generous addition of hops both during and at the end of the fermentation process (dry-hopping) gives our India Pale Ale its characteristic bitterness and piney citrus aroma and flavor. The medium body, crisp finish, and moderate alcohol and IBU levels makes this one of America’s most drinkable and best-selling IPAs.

Appearance: A yellow/pale amber color. Pours with a pretty nice head, but it goes away after a couple minutes. There's little to no lacing.

Smell: Hardly there. Maybe some hoppiness or sweetness, but it's hard to detect much of anything.

Taste: Like the smell, hard to get much out of it. As an IPA, it's a pretty big disappointment, but if you just look at it as a BEER, it's mediocre. Slight hoppiness with minor bitterness. Bits of malt. It's really just light.

Mouthfeel: Decent carbonation, but with the lack of taste, it's sort of watery, really.

Everything about this beer is light. The appearance, smell, taste... like I said, it's not a bad beer or anything, but it sure isn't much of an IPA. If you're used to BMC's, you'll probably like this one, as it doesn't have much taste to speak of. I wouldn't be opposed to drinking another one of these, but I probably won't seek it out again.

Appearance: Very light for an IPA. It's almost like a hefe. Good foam though.

Smell: Bitter hops and some pine. Seemed like they are definitely going with a Northwest theme.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Pretty subdued, but still balanced with pine and citrus hops. Just enough malt to balance. Good mouthfeel, though a bit thin.

Overall Drinkability: I would rank this as a middle-of-the-road IPA.

look: 3 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: golden with a thin head. No lacing. Little yeast sediment in bottom of bottle.

Smell: Not very much aroma.

Taste: Hop dominated. Hops are bitter and tar-like. Very little malt flavor

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is sufficient for style. Bitterness from hops lingers in mouth for quite a while.

Overall: meh. Not well balanced. Bitter with a long finish.

Served on tap during a brewery tour at the Portsmouth location.

Appearance: Amber color with white head that did not last long.

Smell: Hops, not very potent like have come to expect from IPAs.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Medium to light bodied and well balanced. Kinda bland for an IPA, I expected more, almost slightly watered down.

Overall: A little diappointed with this one. Guess I am used to heavier IPAs now. Good starter IPA for those just getting into IPAs.
