Notes / Commercial Description:
Redhook’s twist on the Belgian style is the addition of fresh ginger, which adds a refreshing snappiness to this lighter-bodied wheat beer. M: Light-bodied, crisp at times, but a soft carbonation overall.

O: A solid wit, the ginger is nice touch. Worth a shot.

Pours a hazy medium golden with a foamy quarter inch head that immediately dissipates into a ring of white foam.

Wheat, coriander, orange, and lightly bready malt form the initial aroma. Belgian yeast and lemon add complexity.

Flavor reveals citrus undertones and a nutty malt backbone, finishing slightly dry and peppery. Lemon and orange pith are fairly prominent, but the malt character is somewhat stale. There's a hint of banana that surfaces with ginger in the aftertaste.

Body is a touch light, with high, prickly carbonation that lifts flavor from the palate too quickly.

Fairly easy drinking beer. Carbonation could be dialed down a bit. This beer was fairly old, and the weak ginger notes are likely not so overwhelming because of age.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a hazy yellow-golden color with a tiny bit of an orange hue. Upon pouring there is a one finger white fizzy head. The head fades rather fast leaving very little lacing and a tiny bit of foam on the top of the brew.

Smell – The aroma is of a wheaty nature with smells of lemon mixed within. There are notes of a ginger and coriander spice as well as some sweeter orange which combine with the aforementioned as well as a little bit of yeast.

Taste – The taste begins with a dry cracker and bready taste with some hints of wheat and citrus (orange and lemon) mixed within. A light yeast taste then comes to the tongue with it bringing some coriander and ginger. Toward the end the spice gets a bit stronger with a banana joining in as well creating a still rather dry and lightly spiced wit flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner and lighter side with a carbonation level that is rather average. The moderate carbonation and thinner body make it very drinkable and more refreshing, although a slightly thicker may have been nicer for giving it a bit more flavor.

Overall – The flavor is a little bit lighter in this wit but its not bad for a warm summer day though as it is rather easy drinking and a bit more refreshing.

I had a sample of this beer, and liked it, so I took a growler home. Another lesson that you need more than a sample size to adequately review a beer.
The beer was a hazy orange color with a small white head.
Kind of a fresh, outdoors aroma. A little bit of citrus. A minimalist aroma.
Wheaty taste, a little bit of lemon. Again, a very understated approach.
Just not that much to this beer. Yes, it was refreshing, but that was about it.

I'm not a Redhook hater and actually find their beers solid and affordable for the craft side of things...this is not one of their better efforts is drinkable...lacks most of the expected wit beer does have a hint of ginger as the label suggests....lacks a yeasty component...don't expect much orange flavor from this either....just more of a basic wheat lale with a bit of light ginger spicing...very light though....definitely a macro drinker cross over beer...not for me..slightly below average for the style...

Served on tap at the Redhook brewery in Portsmouth, NH.

Pours golden color and cloudy. White ring around the edge. Some haze. Light wit smell, but not much. Small citrus after taste. No bitter. Quick close, light taste. Very low carbonation. Just ok.

12 oz bottle pours a very hazy, light gold color with a minimal white head and no lacing. I expect a bit more from the head of a wheat beer.

Nose has alot of ginger, which goes well with the coriander and orange peel. Very soft aroma with the spices and wheat tang somewhat muted.

The addition of ginger is a nice change of pace and is subtle, although I wouldnt mind a bit more. Orange accents are lower than most wits and the coriander about average. Body is smooth and creamy, does not have a crisp wheat tang and bubbling carbonation that seems more common than not in a wit. Its a good beer, there are other witbiers I like better...but I will have zero problems finishing my sixer off.

12-oz. bottle into a pint glass at my house on Aug. 24, 2012 (picked it up in a six-pack for $6.99 at Kiel’s in San Diego on Aug. 24, 2012). Poured a hazy, straw, grapefruit with light white head that dissipated almost immediately. Weak retention on top and sides.

Smelled corn, honey, lemon, skunk, apple, sour, orange and orange peel. Pretty flavorful.

Tasted similar to the nose, more of a saison feel. Got apple, orange, orange peel, sour and honey.

Light body. Thin texture. Above average-to-heavy carbonation. Abrupt finish. Crisp, clean and refreshing.

A surprisingly decent beer. I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting that much, but I liked this beer. Great for the summer, too.

Draught @ Portsmouth Brewery. This one poured a cloudy golden color. There was a bit of a white head that lingers awhile and leaves some lacing. Milder but nice aroma Bit of wheat, coriander and other spices. The taste is nice. Medium wheat body, some coriander, citrus. A decent example of the style.

Poured a half finger of head on a cloudy, medium straw colored body.
The aroma is a dose of ginger with a little dry grain in the background.
The ginger really spices up the witbier nicely here. A little ginger with a mild bitter, rounded out by soft wheat taste.
The texture is softer with moderate carbonation.
I'm not a fan of witbier but I liked this.
