Brewed by:
Redhook Ale Brewery
New Hampshire, United States

Style: American Blonde Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Redhook Blonde combines the best attributes of a flavorful golden ale with the refreshing qualities of a lager. The ale is brewed with three different malts and two hop varietals. Lightly roasted barley and a touch of wheat, combined with an ample portion of hops, creates a truly crowd pleasing beer.

Presentation: Nice distinct label on a 12oz short twist-off bottle. Description of the style and "A compelling endorsement may convince us to feature you in an ad." adorns the label. How bloody cheesy.

Appearance: Light golden with a healthy head that appears to retain. Odd that it does so more than their Hefe?

Smell: Slightly lagerish in aroma with mild aged hops in the back.

Taste: Loads of malt flavour for a light ale, some citrus and a heavy dose of diacetyl (like butter, and there is a bit of cooked veggies as well). The small use of wheat is apparent and helps to lighten and dry it up at the end.

Notes: Quite complex for a light beer. Much different from our bright tank samples at the brewery which were less stripped and fuller -- none the less very enjoyable.

Had this for the first time in a long time @ The Times, downtown Boston. It was okay. Quite the drinkable and clean product, but it also had quite a bit of diacetyl, which is not cool for the style.

Very pale in appearance with a basic lacing, clarity is fine. Faint aroma of malt and very clean with not much going on. Big on crispness with a tight but light pale malt body. Quick bitter kiss of hops keeps the brew in balance, hints of dough biscuits and husky grain in the finish. A decent extra pale ale, nothing to go crazy over.

Appearance – Very light orange in color and clear. The head foamed up nicely but JB’ed on me in less than ten seconds.

Smell – Very light malt undertones give way to a cheap, fruity sweetness.

Taste – The cheap Gummi-Bear sugars come out in the taste as well. The malt is almost undetectable. There’s a very light citrus hop balance but you really have to look for it.

Mouthfeel – Crisp and kind of refreshing. This light-bodied ale might do alright on a hot summer day, but I’m in Seattle in late October and it’s frickin’ cold.

Drinkability – It almost crossed the line from “drinkable” to “sinkable,” but I think I’ll stick with it.

Part of a 12pack.
Bottled 060910
In a pint glass it was a bright gold color with barely a head.
It had a sweet malt aroma, with a hint of flowers.
Mostly malt flavor, a little bit of hops showed up late.
Decent enough mouthfeel. A beer to drink after you've mowed the lawn and you want something to drink.

Appearance: Clear golden blond in color with thin white head.

Smell: I think it is fair to say that this beer lacks in the smell department. I caught a little malt but that is about all.

Taste: An agreeable taste/flavor which is fairly mild. This beer is pretty much dominated by a sweet fruity flavor with very little hop flavor. Not bad at all.

Mouthfeel: Medium in body. Creamy and refreshing.

Drinkability: Another middle of the road offering from redhook which I think would be great for the non-craft beer drinker and also occasionally for the craft beer drinker who is looking for something basic or for a change of pace.

Pours a straw-ish blonde yellow color with a fair, white head. Lots of bubbles. Smell is of light graininess, maybe a hint of fruitiness. Taste is more of the very light matly/grainy flavors with a slight noble hop-like bitterness. Balanced but yet not much character to speak of. Easy drinking. Mouthfeel is very carbonated and light bodied. Fairly drinkable if you are looking for something light.

12 ouncer, "Bottled" dating etched onto label of 08 07 06, pours light, yellow and clear, with a white head, grassy and slightly skunky nose leads things off. Light brew, more moldy grass notes. sort of a cloying, oily, over dry mouthfee. Drink this one super cold and you should be fine, semi-micro lawn mower beer, not the best one in the sampler box it came in. The last 1/3 of this was a drain pour, not worth the calories and alcohol...

This is from a sampler case I bought at The Beer Mart in Reading, Pa. I drank it in a pilsner glass. Expiry date clearly marked on the case, and born on date clearly marked on the bottle. YAY!

Pours a slightly hazy gold with a light orange tint. A 1/2 finger head of just off-white bubbles forms, then quickly drops to islands and a ring, with minimal splotches of lacing on the glass.

Aroma is thin, light, pale malt, a very slight hint of caramel, a nice little touch of spicy hops, and very muted fruitiness. For what it is, it's pretty good.

First flavor is maltiness, a little on the thin side, but to style. There is a decent level of hop bitterness to match the malt, and a definitely there spicy hop flavor. Granted, everything's muted, but it is very clean and to style. Aftertaste is slightly sweet and pleasant, with a detectable zing from hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light to medium body, with soft carbonation. Finish is surprisingly long and nice.

I really wonder how people would review this beer if they didn't know AB was involved. If one reviews this beer objectively and according to style, you should find it pretty good. It's a blonde ale, and well made. I would have this again, if offered.

Very refreshing beer. Clear gold pour with a little white head. Fresh grassy aroma with lemon. Taste is wheaty, and little sweet and lemony, kind of like a hefe-light. A good beer for a hot day, but nothing spectacular. A better alternative to Bud Light.

More a less a unobtrusive yellow ale. Maybe what Budweiser would be like if they made ales. Bottled on date of 1/30/06.

Poured a clear yellow to orange color with a thin head that did not hold well. Smelled of malt and a little bit of citrusy hops.

Tasted of crackers (I notice that what some people refer to as a biscuit taste I refer to as a cracker taste. My Mama's Alabama biscuits are better than this ;-). A little bit of lemon from the hops and a slight bitterness on the back of the tongue. Overall pretty refreshin taste.

Malty beers like this seem to coat my mouth and this one does the same. A little hop dryness in the aftertaste. Easy to drink.

Pours a light hazy looking yellow. Aroma was the faintest sweetness.

Taste, middle of the road, minimal hopping, but a tang, that faint sweetness again, very little malt heft, but enough to separate it from a lesser classification. This is a decently built beer for a summer day or girlfriend. Good enough for me around the pool.

Pale, sub-amber appearance. Frothy head, bumpy on the inside of the pint glass. Subtle aroma, slightly yeasty/bready. Light-bodied mouthfeel, just a hint of maple/honey to the malty tastes. Hops are hardly present but the mild malts don't throw the beer remarkably out of balance. Flavor is almost gone by the swallow. Blondes are blondes in the world of beer, I'll always take one over a detergent-tasting macro but not too much interesting here. Certainly is easy on the tongue and drinkable.

Appearance: Honey golden hue off white cream tinted frothy head leaves sporadic specks of lacing. Aroma: Biscuit malts plus 2 row pale malts, touch of honey and fruit character, hint of alcohol and wheat not bad. Taste: A clean semi flavorful Bud-Hook product nice for sipping on in session flavor is reserved mild hops semi sweet with a touch of honey for the malt profile relatively clean and nonofffensive. Mouthfeel: Lighter body easy carbonation nothing too special to note. Drinkability: Not a bad chill and watch the game type of beer, light crisp decent flavored blonde ale.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer has a crystal clear golden yellow body with a thin film of white head a few big bubbles launching from the bottom of the glass.

S- The smell of pale malt has a light noble hop aroma that is almost chemical without any depth. There is a faint dry grain and corn note in the background.

T- The taste of hop bitterness is all I get from the first sip. That flavor of dry corn hangs on the breath when I exhale. As it warms a bit there is a very light note of pale malt but it is hidden by the hops. The finish is pretty dry and crisp.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a fizz finish.

D- This beer his light and crisp and has many lager qualities but it doesn't have the nice depth of malt and the hops are punch and bland.

Yellow gold colored with a fairly weak, white head. Smells like cheap, sweet malt. Taste is generic and malty, with some scarecly detectable hops, a faint creamy taste, and a slightly rusty/metalic aftertaste. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly crisp. Somehow, drinkability is not suffering too bad... I must be thirsty. Overall I don't hate this beer because it is cold and refreshing, but I'm not going to pretend that it's better than it is.

AP: clear golden ale, major carbonation, big bubbles streaming to the top to create a thin milky head that was about 1" deep and receeded to a 1/8" cap.

Nose: Burnt malted wheat, rye, grains, and a earthy hop but very subtle.

flavor: An earthy, wheat, rye, grains and avery light herbal hop, overall think...barnyard.

Feel: Light, crisp and refreshing, decent bite with a smooth finish.

Da: not too bad.

Contestant number 3 in the Redhook sampler.

This looked like it might be good in a frosted mug so that what I poured it into. Surprisingly, it didn't pour blonde but a nice amber sporting a bleach blonde head that laced nicely. Has a distinctive nose but my subpar honker could not get a good read on it...Wheaty maybe?
This is one of the more "mild" beers I've had recently in terms of flavor. Not that it was lacking, just that nothing really stood out.
Not as light bodied as I thought it might be and had a proper amount of carbonation
Finished smooth and easy. I'll have this again next spring when the BBQ season starts. Good.
