On tap at O'Brien's, poured into a small tulip.

Good god. I feel sorry for everyone that doesn't get to try this beer, which is pretty much everyone. The nose is oaky, buttery, boozy. The flavors start sweet, with ripe fruit and chocolate notes, and finish smooth and balanced. Alcohol warms as it closes long and sweet.

As good as any barrel- aged I've had. Judgement Day was used as the beer's base...I like Judgement Day, but this is something else entirely.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Nearly black, but it's really a deep brown. Small khaki head. Thin collar.

Smell - Lots of barrel. Bourbon is most prominent. Oak. Fudge. Caramel malt and booze in the back end.

Taste - The brandy comes through more here. You can really tastes the three barrels. Sweet caramel. Some chocolate, but more sweet caramel. Very woody in the back end. The brandy gives it a sharp boozy bite in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Heavy and boozy. Medium low carbonation.

Overall - It tastes like all three barrels listed in the description, which rarely happens with blends like this. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing I suppose is preference.

750 ml bottle poured into 2 sniffters at O'Brien's.
In the top 5 ba stouts I've ever had. Incredible Bourbon complexity. Not hot at all with good oat and chocolate character. I appreciate this more than standard older viscosity or many other lost abbey/port ba releases. Solid just worth every penny. If it was a little fuller it would be perfection.

I've had this a few times now via draft and bottle.

Look: Deep jet black, viscous liquid coating snifter, very tiny head.

Smell: Amazing oak, complex aroma of faint whiskey and possible agave.

Taste: Some heat from the whiskey, just the right amount. Noticed with age vs. when first released, the heat has taken a back seat a bit in a very good way. If it's not printed on the label, you wouldn't guess that this is a 13%+, but more of a high single digit. Slight smoky, chocolate, and leather up front with a caramel/toffee finish in the end.

Feel: Coats the tongue without overpowering. Not quite a strong ale per what's advertised, but in my mind, feels like a BBA stout, tastes like one, and loving every minute of it.

Overall: If this wasn't a double digit ABV, I'd keep this to myself and not share. Very VERY reminiscent of Churchill's Finest Hour, and makes sense considering the pedigree and brewery. In order, I'd say between the one-off's and private label that Lost Abbey has done, it would be: #1 CFH 2014, #2 O'Brien's 20th, #3 CFH 2015. Great work by the folks of Abbey and O'Brien's.
