Notes / Commercial Description:
A stronger version of our Lost and Found Abbey Ale brewed to a more contemplative alcohol content. Massive in every stretch of the brewing way possible this is the sort of beer that will remind a beer drinker who considers themselves a saint that even saints stray as sinners from time to time.

Makes me think of a Quad. Similar color and feel. I smell and taste the honey and raisins but not the rosemary. Another good showing from the lost Abbey.

On tap @ the library

Its dim in here so lets assume it looks like your typical BSDA. It smells of cola with raisins thrown in. The taste has the same qualities but with a little more yeasty esters going on. It goes down fine considering the abv, but its bitter and still get a good amount of heat. Overall its a decent BSDA, but the cola aspect threw me off and the yeast character isnt all that unique. It could als benefit from the abv being a couple percents lower. I finished the 12 oz pour, but Its a one and done beer for me

Poured from a cork and cage bottle into a pint glass. The cork really popped and initially the head was huge but it quickly dissipated. The color is a dark mahogany brown with a thin toffee-colored head and lacing. It resembles a glass of cola. The smell features raisin, chocolate, and sweet honey. However, the taste is surprisingly bitter and very boozy. The chocolate is burnt and the raisin is very sour. I'm really not tasting the honey at all. Despite the lack of head, this ale is highly carbonated and the 12 ABV is very evident. Overall, the taste isn't worth the high ABV.

This was a cellared 2010 bottle from the Brick Store Pub in Decatur, Ga. ABV was 10% cork and cage bottle poured into Teku glass
A- was a light reddish color with golden highlights. S- wow! Rosemary, raisin, booze, charred oak, chocolate(?). T- heavy dose of raisin with some honey mixing In as well. M- feel is rather thin with a low amount if carbonation. Definitely some heat from the alcohol. O- really interesting beer!old ale with those adjuncts made for a very interesting glass.

"The most imaginative beers are our crusade, we believe we are all in this together, we strive for honesty and integrity in our lives like you, fresh beer is great. Aged beer is better, now that you have found us help us spread the message, there is good and evil in the world. Our beers are good, passion isn't something you can buy at the corner store, we believe an inspired life is worth living, life is a bout choices. The Lost Abbey is a great choice, we are not perfect, but no one is." 10 Commandments is brewed in the style of a Belgian Strong Dark Ale with Honey, Raisins and Rosemary added. Available in 750ml. bottles and on draft.

Poured from a 750 ml. bottle to a tulip glass. Served above 59 degrees Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a frothy foam head of a caramel-tan color over a very dark brown body with high density. Retention is good and lacing is light and spotty. 3.75

(Smell) Aromas of toasted bread, syrupy fruits, fermented honey and aromatic peppery spice, although I do not detect rosemary in this beer. Some mild acidity and funk combines with the sweetness of the malt in this beer for a nice balance. Potency is moderate. 3.5

(Taste) Toasted bread crusts, caramelized brown sugars and smooth honey up front follows through to a slightly spicy, more effervescent and rummy finish of raisin, molasses, peppery spice, and more notably in the flavor than in the aroma, rosemary leaves. Light acidity and funk likely demonstrates this beer's age rather than the overall quality of its components. Overall, quality flavor with rosemary being arguably the most unique ingredient causing it to stand out, working surprisingly well in accenting the finish and overall flavor without drowning out the remaining flavors. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, residual, mildly sticky, peppery and effervescent, and very dry. Carbonation is mild, generating a modest frothiness and a lightly crisp finish. Body is medium+ for the style and medium/heavy for the style. Balance is slightly peppery, grainy and fruity esters over sweet. Alcohol presence is moderate and there are no off characters to note in this beer. 3.5

(Overall) Lost Abbey's 10 Commandments Ale is my first experience into this brewery's beers, and I'm pleasantly surprised with how this culmination of flavors plays out in favor for a Belgian Dark Strong Ale. Excellent malt and yeast profile tied with the unique herbal qualities of Rosemary come together as closely balanced for an ale, most of the ingredients can be detected throughout the flavor, and all play a significant role. I found the beer very dry although this bottle did not have a date system on it so I was unable to determine the beer's age to be sure whether the dryness was an intended factor or not. I hope that this brewery puts dates on their bottles, but styles such as this one age quite gracefully nonetheless, so feel free to enjoy it without consequence at any time. 3.75
