A stronger version of our Lost and Found Abbey Ale brewed to a more contemplative alcohol content. Massive in every stretch of the brewing way possible this is the sort of beer that will remind a beer drinker who considers themselves a saint that even saints stray as sinners from time to time.

Bottled in 2015 (not sure what month).. 1st Lost Abbey beer, super stoked!!!!

Pours a dark ruby brown colour, with a continually developing head. It seriously went from a 1/2 to almost two inches over the course of several minutes.

First few whiffs release the raisins, honey, obvious belgian yeast and candied sugars, soft malts, figs, and apple pie.

Taste: Belgian yeast carbonation. After that, you get raisins, pears, cherries, plums, whatever dark berries or fruits you like, all soaked in alcohol. Not to imply the alcohol is overpowering the beer, but its pretty close. Herbs and spices bite the mouth in the aftertaste. **Warmth really helps to round this beer out. After about 20 minutes I start to get a nice toasty malty base.

Body: Thinner than I expected from a 12% BSDA. The aroma and initial alcohol taste really kill the mouthfeel for me. Getting closer to room temperature and allowing the malt presence to assert itself, helps the beer to coat the cheeks more efficiently.

Overall: I love the style. I love the brand that The Lost Abbey has created for itself. And I love the artwork on the bottle.I must confess (haha get it??).. I was a little disappointed with this one. The 12% is extremely prevalent. The carbonation is a little overpowering. And the overall taste is not the rich decadent goodness that you would expect from a top shelf BSDA (albeit domestic). I am still looking forward to trying other beers from the Lost Abbey, and hope that I can try this one again with more favourable results.

Peace

Makes me think of a Quad. Similar color and feel. I smell and taste the honey and raisins but not the rosemary. Another good showing from the lost Abbey.

On tap @ the library

Its dim in here so lets assume it looks like your typical BSDA. It smells of cola with raisins thrown in. The taste has the same qualities but with a little more yeasty esters going on. It goes down fine considering the abv, but its bitter and still get a good amount of heat. Overall its a decent BSDA, but the cola aspect threw me off and the yeast character isnt all that unique. It could als benefit from the abv being a couple percents lower. I finished the 12 oz pour, but Its a one and done beer for me

Poured from a cork and cage bottle into a pint glass. The cork really popped and initially the head was huge but it quickly dissipated. The color is a dark mahogany brown with a thin toffee-colored head and lacing. It resembles a glass of cola. The smell features raisin, chocolate, and sweet honey. However, the taste is surprisingly bitter and very boozy. The chocolate is burnt and the raisin is very sour. I'm really not tasting the honey at all. Despite the lack of head, this ale is highly carbonated and the 12 ABV is very evident. Overall, the taste isn't worth the high ABV.
