Since I'm a fan of the regular Red Poppy I made sure that I grabbed some of this at the EBF 2012. The beer poured out as a cloudy looking brown color with a tan colored head on top. The smell was BIG, this sucker has lots and lots of sour aromas coming off of it. The sour cherry and wooden barrel aromas are one of the strongest I've smelled in a beer here. The taste of the beer made me realize how much strong this beer can be, I actually made a face when swallowing this brew. The oak flavors with all that extra cherry really kick you in the teeth. The mouthfeel was similar the regular version I thought. Overall it's a very tart beer with a lot to offer to people who really enjoy this style. I still prefer the original version over this one though.

Sampled at EBF. Ratebeer won't recognize this entry, so I am rating it here. Pours a hazy, copper amber with some creamy white head. Nose of vinegar, strawberry, malt, raspberry. Flavor is the same, lots of berry, some vinegar, some malt, light lactic. Full, tart finish.

Double cherry was on tap at the brewery during the V009 release. Reviewed from notes. Served in a taster glass.

Pour is light reddish brown with reasonably high amount of head. Bubbles are very large and porous similar to regular red poppy.

Smell is vinegar, red wine, and some brown sugar. The cherries come through in a nice brightness.

Tastes very sour. Tons of cherry and vinegar. The flavor profile is similar to regular red poppy, but the vinegar is toned down and the fruit is turned up. Tastes much better, but also much more sour than the regular version.

Body is a little thin, and carbonation is medium high.

Overall, a good, and very sour beer. The lower acetobacter was a huge improvement over regular poppy. This one is also good reasonably cold, which I can't say for the standard.

Pours an amber apple cider color with an antique white head. Mouthfeel is thin, watery, finishing dry. Very tart flavor of dusty fermented sour apple. This is not my style, but seems average to just above average for this style. It seems to compete with some of the more renowned sours from NoCal.
