Framboise de Amorosa is our first foray into the world of raspberry beers. It begins as Lost and Found ale and is sent into freshly emptied red wine barrels. The beer spends over a year in the wood during which time it is spiked with three additions of raspberries.

The first sip produces a sweet start with a long drawn out sour finish. Some of the sweetness from the raspberries comes out before acidic notes join the mix. On the back end of the beer is a smoothing oak character which keeps the beer from becoming dull.

a beer i have missed the opportunity to try on many occasions, so a real treat to finally encounter it again. i was taken aback by its dark color, so may framboise beers are just pale wheat bases with the fruit. this appears to be a rich brown ale, deep and rich looking, with a red accent from the fruit. not what i expected but very cool. the nose on this one is a great mix of chocolate malt from the base beer and tart freshness from the berries, i am surprised how tart they really are, rising above the sweet richness of the brown ale base, which is quite robust on the grain front, toasted and desserty. the bacterial aspect of this is cool too, it seems to exacerbate the intensity of the fruit, and brings a series pucker to the finish of this. the malt chocolate thing comes back a touch, and it feels like a nice valentines day dessert before the acidity washes it out. the lost abbey is famous for a reason, this is the only beer of its kind i have ever tasted, and think it is more than worthy of its high praise. as flavorful a beer as any.

12.7oz can. Can lists ABV% as 8.5%. No dating information found.
Reddish brown colored body. Can wants to vent foam when opened. When poured the fizzy head disappears in less than a minute. No lacing.
Aroma is intense raspberry, some lemon, and oak barrel.
Taste is sweet raspberry fruit on first impression, and then quickly gets sour. Has a touch of lemon and red grape. At the end the oak barrel appears to mellow the sour. More raspberry sweetness in the aftertaste.
Tight cleansing mouthfeel. Scrapes the teeth, with a tiny bit of sweet tooth ache. Very good carbonation.
Totally captures the intense raspberry essence, and uses the oak barrel as a soothing device. Quite good overall.

On tap at the brewery. Incredible fresh raspberry character with added barrel qualities. Such a great sour. Been waiting 15 years to try this and it does not disappoint!

12.7 ounces corked and caged bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.0%. Hazy reddish-brown colour, moderate off-white head. INTENSE aroma of ripe and over-ripe raspberries, some spicy notes too. Strong sour / acidic flavour with loads of raspberries, also notes of lemons. If this is what you like, that’s what you get.

5oz pour at Raleigh Beer Garden.
A: Fluffy pink head, a lot of legs down the glass. It pours a syrupy, deep, cherry red. It's beautiful.
S: Overpowering scent of raspberries. This beer's scent over-powered the rest of my flight.
T: Raspberries, sugar, other berries perhaps too in here, slightly tart and candyish.
M: Light to medium bodied. Not to acidic or carbonated.
O: Fantastic. One of my favorite beers. I'd highly recommend this one.

Age for several years.
The beer pours a nice white and foamy head that takes a while to dissipate. It has a slightly red purple tint to it as well. The beer itself is a clear brown amber color that looks very nice.

The smell is pretty good. It has a sweet and tart raspberry smell with a slight oak and red grape note alongside a wooden note and finishes with a slight vinegar note in the finish.

The taste is pretty good. It has the smell sweet and tart raspberry notes from the smell but it's more balanced out with a stronger red grape and wood note followed a soft vinegar in the finish.

The feel is good. It has a medium body with a slightly oily texture with a very light carbonation to it.

Overall, this is a pretty good beer. I suspect it's a bit stronger fresh but probably pretty good.

A corked and caged 12.7 fl. oz. bottle, with no bottled on or best before date. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.

Appearance: A cloudy reddish brown colour with a one finger beige head that dissipated fairly quickly and left only sparse spotty lacing.

Aroma: Tart, raspberry, sour, oak, lemon juice.

Taste: Sour, tart, sweet, raspberry, grape, lightly vinous, oak, light lemon juice and a splash of vinegar.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Very enjoyable with a good balance between sour and sweet, and good raspberry aroma and flavours.
