Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Framboise de Amorosa is our first foray into the world of raspberry beers. It begins as Lost and Found ale and is sent into freshly emptied red wine barrels. The beer spends over a year in the wood during which time it is spiked with three additions of raspberries.

The first sip produces a sweet start with a long drawn out sour finish. Some of the sweetness from the raspberries comes out before acidic notes join the mix. On the back end of the beer is a smoothing oak character which keeps the beer from becoming dull.

Fantastic sour with most of the flavor showing up on the back end. When it first hits the tongue, there's just some tartness and a bit of oak. The raspberry really kicks in right before swallowing.

2012 cellared bottle, enjoyed this weekend. Bought at the brewery back when we lived in Oceanside.
Complexity has grown as sweetness mellowed since we last tasted when we first bought the bottles. Forward tartness and raspberry flavors remain.
A wonderful, darker framboise that is worth aging!

375ml bottle from the Cardiff tasting room.

Akin to a well made Flemish sour ale, this one packs a punch with bright acetic acid and active prickly carb. The raspberry is sweet on the nose and fresh, tart and even pungent in flavor. This beer is quite acidic. Oak tannins are light. Earthy undertones from the oak and yeast carry the sweet fruit and malt through a long finish. Interesting and strong in character, this is a great beer but in terms of raspberry wild ales, I prefer the subtlety of the FW Bretta Rose I recently had. If you like Flemish sours, this will be up your alley.
