A - Super deep ruby, nearly black, small head has little retention and lacing.

S/T - Oak and barrel forward. Strong oak, vanilla, caramel, bourbon, tannins up front, then transitions smoothly through the finish, finishing with the stout-like qualities of roast coffee, and rich chocolate. Booze heat is expected and welcomed.

M - Full body, lively carbonation, yet stays smooth. Expected noticeable booze, warming.

O - Taste is superb. Is it worth the price of the bottle? I'm not sure about that, and I'm glad I had the op to have it on tap first.

Served at room temperature in a tulip snifter. My first Lost Abbey brew.

A: Dark brownish black, with slight opacity on the corners. Minimal brown head, with little-to-no retention.
S: The smell is complex, there's a lot at play, but the sweeter tones you taste are muted by the stronger boozy scents from the bourbon and whiskey barreling. The aroma reminds me of a boozy barleywine.
T: The taste is unexpectedly sweet, like an aged barleywine. The sweet taste dissipates as it turns into a pleasant boozy aftertaste that lingers. I can taste raisins, cherries, some dark fruit, dark chocolate, barley, bourbon, and whiskey.
M: It's lighter than it looks in respect to the mouth-feel.
O: I would definitely buy again, I'm intrigued by it's complexity and unique brewing style. More importantly I enjoyed the taste and would say it was worth the hefty single 12 oz bottle price.

A: Used motor oil with a tiny ring of lacing that accounts for the head.

S: Bourbon, molases, medium roast coffee.

T: A quick wash of tart dark fruits and then the barrel notes come in. There are some strange sour notes that come in and dance with the sweet caramels, wood, and booze. Not entirely unpleasant but unexpected. Not as complex and full as the nose let on.

M: Slightly thinner than the appearance suggested though still syrupy. It foams up on your tongue.

O: The smell is absolutely amazing. But the taste, while nice, falls a little shy of all that the aroma promised.
