Tap at Armsby Abbey
Pitch black thick looking soupy beer, with a dark creamy head that leaves decent lacing.

Nose Super dark malts, light chocolate, hint of roast, barrel and oak aromas with light bourbon. Biscuit, fluffy nougat, and touch of earthy bitterness.

Taste dark big malts. Little strange cherry like fruit in there somehow. Roasted malts, barrel galore with oak vanilla light bourbon. Bready malt and lots of chocolate. Fairly bitter complex and chewy nougat light spicy earthy hops. Little biscuit brings malted milk ball. Just a bit of booze.

Mouth is fuller bod creamyy rich some booze decnt carb.

Overall pretty good but not great, little overwhelming with so much going on, all the normal subtleties and nuances of the beers that went into the blend are long gone, and it just a mass of malts and barrel.

From the EBF Guide Book: "American Strong Ale, 9% (Blended barrel aged beer)".

From 02/04/12 notes. Had twice on tap at the day session of EBF up in Boston, Ma.

a - Pours a dark mahogany brown color with one inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of bourbon, sweet dark fruits, brandy, oak, roasted malts, alcohol, bread, and fruity malts. Pretty nice, bourbon is strong up front.

t - Tastes of sweet dark fruits, bourbon, brandy, oak, roasted malts, chocolate, toasted malts, alcohol, and fruity malts. Little more fruit here than the nose, though bourbon is up front again.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very smooth, was expecting it to be a bit harsher.

o - Overall a nice blended, BA beer from LA. Bourbon is prominent, as are sweet dark fruits. Easy to drink, would like to have it again.

Enjoyed at the Armsby Abbey. Reviewed from notes.

A - Poured into a snifter a dark, hazy garnet hue with a one finger off white head that faded slowly to leave a light, thin halo. Not too shabby.

S - Kind of one note here. The base blend of beers is looong gone on the nose, what is left is light bourbon and some malty sweetness.

T - Taste, unfortunately, is similar to the nose. Just doesnt work for me as what I'm sipping on tastes just malty and lightly chocolate with fainter bourbon barrel notes.

M - Mouthfeel is pretty solid though, creamy with some light carbonation.

O - Overall, I was kind of unimpressed with this one. Was very anxious to try it but what I got was a messy, malty beer.
