Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.70%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Brewed with raisins and aged in bourbon barrels with sour cherries and currants added.

Track 9 began as a few barrels of Cuvee de Tomme that hadn’t matured enough to make it to bottling last year. To those we added currants and additional dose of Brett and let Nature do what she would. The result is a jammy brew with just the right amount of tartness and funk.

Bottle.

A: Deep malt roast, followed by ample sour cherries and raisins, light black currents, boozy, earthy, funky, with a tart lingering sourness.

A:Deep brown color with ruby highlight. The beer has a light thin head that quickly dissipates.

T: Dark roasted malts quickly give way to sour cherries, light currants, raisins and dried fruits. Slightly boozy, light oak, with a funky tart sourness.

M: Full bodied with light carbonation, and somewhat viscous.

O: Very solid; the beer has a interesting interplay of sour cherries, raisins and light currants. The beer is a bit boozy, but still well executed.

Split with rudzud

Pours a decent fizzy head that fades quickly, no real lacing, nice legs, dark mahogany brown color.

Nose is nice tart sour, wild funky sour cherry like, big lactic acid and sour funk, mild sweet brown malt and brown sugar candy, etc. Little buttery vanilla oak like, brown sour malt.

Taste brings sweet candy malt, brown malt, sugar, syrupy, but sour funk, little Brett funk, lacto sour funk, tart cherry like fruit, funk, lactic acid, toasted brown malts and brown sugar, flemmy, candied raisin and candied cherry. Touch of toasted buttery vanilla oak. Finish sticky flemmy sour, tart cherry, lactic acid and sour funk, more toffee and brown sugar syrup.

Mouth is thicker syrupy sour flemmy funk, acidic, decent but lighter carb.

Overall meh, just lots if weird sweet brown malt characters with sour bacteria and mild Brett... Pretty good but not great.

Split with JLindros. From the VIP track box set.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip clearish ruby brown with a thin halo and light wisps.

S - Aromas of raisins, brett, funk, lacto, sour cherry.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, loads of raisins, nice sour cherry, good lacto notes, brett funk, pleasant sweetness and tart. Tasty, alcohol hidden well.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, lightly crisp, slightly flemmy. Alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall this beer was quite tasty. Lots of raisins and sour cherries.

Back to sort of muddy indistinct beers. I think black currants in beers don't tend to age well.
