Picked up a bomber today...cheap AF, like under $5. Looks like a smaller bottle than it is...great optical illusion. Poured moderately hard, room temp to a tulip glass. Aroma is prevalent caramel from a foot away, more prominent with the beak in the beaker. Two finger tight bubbly light tan head that burns down to a creamy-looking ring. Fair amount of lacing. Color is a slightly turbid looking amber, with a steady but low flow of carbonation. First sips follow the nose. Very prominent caramel vibe, sweet malty richness. Not getting much of any forward hops. No alcohol burn. Very smooth mouthfeel up front, with a tiny bit of tartness on the end. Very easy to drink, as evidenced by the fact that this second glass is almost gone before I finish this review. It’s a bit one dimensional, but not in a bad way. It’s almost like Lagunitas Brown Shuggas’ big brother, which I enjoy immensely. I actually have some of those that I might use as a follow up to this to see if my palate comparison is accurate. Buy it if you see it.

an absolutely exquisite barleywine, and something a little different in the style. i am quite certain there is no fruit in this deep amber and viscous looking brew, but it smells and tastes like blackberry jam, with a side of currant, strawberry, and red grape, literally insanely fruity in a style that in my experience rarely produces more than a suggestion of fruit, this is like an all out berry assault, crazy that this can all come from grain and yeast! i get some of the usual grain sweetness in the beer, but its more of a fruit sweetness to me, blackberry leading the way, some red apple too, maybe a maple and toffee complex from the long cooked malt behind it, and a cool almost port wine character to it with the alcohol seeping through. its almost like there has to be fruit in here! when i hold it in my mouth awhile, it expands even more, with nuances of dark bread, bran, and fig. brown sugar through it all, some english yeast but also a warmer fermented ester here that makes this relatively distinct for what it is. 2018 vintage drinking extremely well right now, shocked this hasnt garnered more attention, its first rate in a style that can be samey when done superbly well. grape candy and blackberry pie to finish with just the right amount of booziness to keep it drinking like the barleywine that it is. if you are lucky enough to find this around, pick it up, its next level. never had this much fruit essence in the style before, radically unique, we loved it!
