I was at the bierloods during the epic tasting held by CRooney5787. Vacas, the owner, was our host and it was a grand day.

About the bierloods itself. It is not as the picture shows. The shop is in an older kind of shed. The collection is enormous. Vacas opened the shop for us during the tasting and i was able to buy a few nice gems. You can find all the local beer here such as the kaontjesbeer, beer made special for the Bierloods. I also saw some nice Struise stuff and loads of geuze and lambics, not my style but when you like it. Prices are very reasonable. Take your time when you gon in the bierloods, there are lots and tons of beer to look for.

When you get thirsty you can walk in the Zytholoog, a very well equiped beerban with the most of the beer in big fridges. Gooood collection.

Food is normally not served but for this special occasion vacas's wike cooked us a supermeal.

Vacas can be considered as an Orval specialist, he has the biggest Orval collection in the world...

Where to start, I haven't reviewed anywhere before, but this place really deserves it.

The Bierloods is INSANE. I have been to Dopduvel, and Dranken geers, but nothing compares. If you're looking for Jupiler, Stella and Maes, this may not be the place for you. Vacas and Sabine (the owners) are incredible. Steffan known as VACAS is beyond knowledgeable. He is a certified beer sommelier, and has dedicated his life to building the ultimate cafe and bottle shop. When you walk into the cafe, it will reflect just that. Take a look at his countless display fridges packed full of crafts beer. When I saw it, my jaw dropped. He noticed how enthused i was, and told me i should check out his shop.
I walked in, and almost fell over backward. It is stacked floor to ceiling, with beers id never heard of. I found all kinds of gems. I'm convinced this place dose not have more reviews because people are keeping it a secret. A taxi from the Brugge train station is about 15 euro. Taking a bus is also an option, and much cheaper. It drops you off about 200 meters from the cafe. There is also a nice little bed and breakfast, about 150 meters away. I recommend you get a room, either in Brugge, or in Adegem if you're a serious beer lover. There is no leaving here after just one beer.
Vacas personally goes to breweries 5 days a week, picking up beers all over Belgium. He has a fantastic relationship with brewers, and they always make sure their special beers are sold there.
To sum it up- If you're going to be in Belgium, visiting the "Bierloods" is a absolute must. He is so competitively priced that, if you take a taxi from Brugge, and back just to buy beers, you will still come out ahead of buying at the beer shops in Brugge. Not to mention, you will have a better selection.

I really owe finding this place to BA Yapi- We have visited several times since

If you know you're visiting Belgium, and seeking special beers, give Vacas a call, Im sure he will be happily help get them.

Well,

just about 12 miles from where I live, so I had to check this one out! Already visited their beershop, filled with over a thousand belgian beers, and it really rocked my boat!

the bar itself is fantastic. Beerboards all over the place, over 400 different beers in separate fridges! You can choose one yourself, give it to the owner - Vacas - and of you go!
Very possibly you'll find some rare stuff. Westy's of course, but also some special sours or like in december, all the belgian Christmas beers you want!

Went there with fellow BA Matt, it was a great afternoon. Will visit again in no time! Almost no tourists from monday to friday. Nice local atmosphere in the evening, especially in the weekends. Locals who drink craft beer... find out some local favorites and you're in for a long and special night

If you are visiting Brugge and you have a car, this place is a must visit store.

It's about 10 minutes east of Brugge and boast more than 800 varieties of beer. If it's brewed in Belgium, he probably has it. (Although, I saw no Westvleteren...)

He seems to get in special stuff from time to time like the dusty old bottles of St. Louis Gueuze Fond Tradition and some aged Drie Fonteinen. The shop is a bit spartan but they are making every inch of the place available to store more beer. I grabbed a bunch of various Belgian stouts and Christmas beers. Outside of those and a couple bottles of old lambic, I had to limit myself...could have bought 3 cases in a heartbeat. Glassware was available for sale too.

Prices were good to me, individual bottle sales were the norm.

Downstaris, the owner (Mr. Vacas) had a cafear set up with a huge bank of commercial-style coolers that were stocked with cold beer (probably 250 varieties) to enjoy on premises.

Service was fantastic and Mr. Vacas even cracked open a beer for us that he has brewed under contract by De Proef called Koantjesbier. It was one of the better blondes I had while in Belgium.

Again, could be tough to get to without a car but well worth a trip.

De Bierloods is a great new place when wanting to choose from a wide variety of good Belgian beers.
It's a beer shop and a beer pub at the same time.
The beer bar is located downstairs, and the stairway is just behind the entrance.
All beers can also be tasted outside, on the small terrace that is installed in front of the building.
800+ different Belgian Beers !!!! This is truly amazing !
More amazement to find out that great quality is available.
De Bierloods cellar bar is wonderful decorated with a big collection of beer signs hanging on all walls.
Interesting to know is that all beer signs do show beers that are actually available.
On the left side we notice the big wall covered with a big row of beer fridges.
Fridges filled with all the available beers, more than 800 !
Unique about this place is that you have to choose the beer straight out of the fridge.
Take the bottle, and bring to the bar, where it is opened and served into the appropriate glass by the bartender.
De Bierloods is also responsible for the local Maldegem beer, Koantjesbier.
This is an original beer brewed at the 'Proef'brewery , and is excellent !
It is a new version, revised for "De Bierloods", and the festive committee of the town of Maldegem.

De Bierloods is run by Sabine Verbuyst, and husband Stefaan Van Canneyt (VACAS)
Highly recommended.
