The copper color of this India Pale Ale hints at the strong malt character needed to support the huge hoppy flavors and defining bitterness of this classic beer.

Drank this while waiting for the little lady to finish working. This will be my second Granite City brew and it's got to be better than the Blueberry Ale. Drank from a generic pint glass.
Appearance- Pours a dark orange with a nice one finger fluffy white head. Quite a bit of sticky lacing crawls about my glass.
Smell- The cascades come through slightly in the nose as they are lightly fruity but mostly the earthiness of the nobles do there thing. Water cracker malt hides behind the hops and does just enough let your nostrils know malt is present.
Taste- Kind of mirrors the nose as the earthiness of the hops dominate but I don't get any fruitiness. Loads of grass and dandelion stems add that dry sticky bitterness that makes me think English all the way. The bitterness isn't harsh but It's almost woody (if that's possible). Lightly buttery and nutty with the lightest touch of caramel sweetness.
Mouthfeel- Fairly heavy with a nice crisp carbonation.
Drinkability- Not too bad I suppose for a English IPA. Not sure I've had a brew made with Apollo hops but I'm going to assume they are a lot like the fuggles also used. The cascades do nothing for the taste but whatever. Mildly enjoyable.

L: cloudy amber white head that clings to glass.
S: predominantly grapefruit.
T: light. Could have used more hoppy flavor and bitterness. Had on draft. Slight tin flavor.
F: medium body. Enjoyable. Coats pallet.
O: for restaurant beer it was ok.

The appearance is a golden/somewhat amber colored body with a moderate amount of carbonation that is seen rising, one finger white foamy head, light lacing surrounding the glass. The aroma has a strong malty presence up front with some hops trying to make a strong secondary take, but mainly stay subdued. The taste is sweet through the malts, sweet sticky aftertaste and finish. On the palate, its about a light to medium, somewhat sessionable, carbonation seems to be right on for the style and for me. Overall, is this really an English IPA, really? Seemed more of an English pale ale to me.

On tap at a Granite City location. Not doing a full review because the beer isn't in front of me, just some notes. Not much hops smell or taste, and the hop profile is more traditional pine than new school citrus. Plenty of malt backbone, but overall a but muddled in execution. Medioce at best
