If you were looking for a double IPA that does absolutely nothing for hopheads except leave a vague ghostly hop cloud in your mouth, head down to your local Granite City (TM), flip open to their "Beer-Flavored Water Drinks" section, and order up a cold glass of Batch 1000. The fine folks that work there will describe to you exactly what your suppose to taste, so when you buy your 30 dollar Granite City (TM) take-home growler, you can explain to your landlord why the rent's going to be a few days late.

Darker in color than I expected. Very little smell for a double IPA. Taste is some bitterness, not sure what else. I was expecting more. I told my wife I've never had a bad double IPA...until now.

Came to me in a mug club mug with about an inch of off white/wheat colored head above a cloudy rich honey golden colored beer.

Distinct hops aroma that had a slight sourness to it.

Hops dominate the taste with hints of light grain malts, maybe grapefruit.

A nice light dry aftertaste with a little hops taste in it.

A pretty darn good medium bodied double IPA.

A clear dark copper in color, this brew develops a soft, fluffy head just under a finger tall. Retention is pretty good and some spotty lacing is left on the glass.
The aroma and flavor show the typical profile of a brewery that typically brews all their beers lightly. Touted as a DIPA, it's almost a stretch to call it an IPA. Hoppiness is there, and the hops used seem good and to make a fairly complex mix of floral, herbal and citrus, but I've had hoppier pale ales for sure. Malts also add good balance. This is a gateway DIPA for sure, or one for people who need to ease their way into flavor.
This is also fairly light-bodied, although it does reach about medium. There's enough crispness and smoothness to keep it interesting and it flows nicely. It could use more heft, but I don't see much more by way of flaw.
All in all, where it counts, Batch 1000 is an average DIPA.

Had on tap last night a couple different times at Granite City. Review from phone notes.

A- Poured a clear darker orange/amber color. One and a half finger bone white head sticks around for a short period before dying down to nothing. Leaves some skirted lacing on the sides for the entire glass. First beer here that actually impresses me in apperance.

S- Big citrus hops come first (pineapple and orange). Some bitter hops come through as well but play a background roll in the aroma. Some sweeter malts come into play in the tail end of the nose with a sweetbread kind of aroma. This is mostly hops in this beer. Quite surprised!

T- Citrus hops clash with the bittering hops right off the bat in this beer. Light sweet malts come into play midway through the beer balancing it all out. Ending of this beer is a little more bitter than the front of the beer. Every good tasting.

M- Medium mouthfeel to this. Carbonation is good for the beer style. Citrus hops roll around the bitter hops on the palate and aftertaste long after a sip is taken. Crisp in the taste. Everything zings around on the palate.

D- This is the first beer I had from Granite City that I feel they actually took the time with and made right. To be honest I didn't expect much and came out of there with a smile on my face. I will be back before it's taken off of tap that is for sure!

The best offering here. This one is pretty tasty with a moderate hop presence. I really do not know how it is classified as a DIPA though, seems more like a standard IPA really. The alcohol content is nicely hidden though, you can't taste it at all. Careful with this one, it will creep up on your quickly.
