I've drank so much of this beer its not even funny. Going to college in eastern PA it was so affordable and easy to come by. We often referred to it as the "Diet Dr. Pepper of light beers" for its faithfulness to the traditional lager. No doubt, Yuengling has often been overrated by beer lovers for its heritage rather than its flavor, especially since the craft beer movement is so strong. That doesn't mean its bad beer though. It has a very distinctive flavor and drinkablity that many will love when compared to its pale lager brethren from the major brewers. At 99 calories its a guilt free pleasure. Some may be turned off by its unusually low 3.6abv

This is a boring style of beer, and Yuengling's Light Lager is quite a boring beer. With that said, it is the best boring light lager I've had. I am not sure quite how to rate this, as it's both boring and fantastic considering its style.

I don't know why you would want to get a light lager, but this is among the best out there.

Drank from bottle, avoid drinking this from a can it is not the same experience.

Taste - light hop barley and malt flavors, very watery, taste similar to amstel light but more barley flavor than hop

Feel - not too acidic, a very fine brew and drink, great feel. Much better than yeungling traditional, and my favorite domestic light beer

Well, it looks like Yuengling, and it smells like Yuengling. It also manages to taste like regular Yuengling (despite the corny touches, it has that stone fruit-laden midtaste down pat), though the finish is pretty damn watery. Still, it has more flavor than the other light crap on the market. It's well carbonated and not insubstantial feeling (especially impressive if it's actually 3.2% like BA says) - this one is practically made for chugging. If you have to have a light beer, this is the one to get. I'm giving this a 4 overall because despite having mediocre singular elements, it comes together to become an exemplary example of a bad style. Whatever that means.

for what it IS (a light lager...), not bad at all! actually, GOOD (compared to the superMacros). still has a bit of red and that makes it a little more unique than other 'lites'...i've had these before but never focused on it.

smell is not sweet at all...a bit of sourness, very appealing, though of course, i'd like more intensity. that's not what this was designed for. i have to remember that (to be FAIR and not compare this to hot rods and hop rides....that just explode...) this is a small MACRO offering.

taste/mouthfeel is very refreshing, a sort of sour dough (light...) that is AT LEAST 'flavorable'...went really well with my dad's pasta fasul zuppa...quenched my thirst, washed down that pleasant overdose of homegrown and grinded red pepper.

all in all, i wouldn't normally buy this (i just don't DO light beers unless offered one or it's in a variety pack). easy to drink for sure. still, light beers are almost an oxymoron and are, by nature, handicapped. and that's ok. they serve a purpose like decaf coffee...and even NA 'beers'....but this is a fine and standup brew. will have to compare this to Sam Adams Light whenever i get offered one.

edit addendum note: an A- here is not the same as an A- elsewhere...this is judging it as it is as well as keeping in mind what a LIGHT beer 'is'...for what it is, this is pretty darn solid.

also, i will try and review the CAN version of this...can versions are simply NOT the same beer. never has been for me.

Tea-colored beer with a light head that dissipates quickly. Grassy, sweet aroma with light citrus notes. Crisp, fresh, leafy flavor. Creamy texture, but doesn't feel heavy at all. The only way I can tell this is a light beer is the slightly watery body, but even that isn't unpleasant. Hard to believe this is in the same category as the BMC lights. I'd drink this stuff all the time if it were available in my area.

Pours a medium amber producing 2+ fingers of frothy, beige, somewhat lived, head that leaves a thin wash of bubbly lacing that soon fades. Aroma is toast, cereal grain & caramel malt, lightly fruity with hints of nuts, grass & earth. Taste is watery as expected for a light beer but much more flavorful than any of the popular American light pilsners being consumed by the tanker car load every few minutes. Fronted by thinly sweet caramel & bready malts, corn, hints of pepper, grass & earthy hops. The short-lived aftertaste is wet whole grain breadiness. Mouthfeel is thin, light bodied with medium carbonation with a light silkiness & finishing with a peppery bite. This is my go to low calorie (99) brew. Not that it is great but it is very serviceable in view of the other light options available.

12oz can, date stamp 16260120930. Served in a shaker pint glass.

Appearance: Clear pale copper color. Initial 1/4" white foam died back to nothing with no lacing noted.

Smell: A bit malty with some roasted malt. An occasional whiff of corn.

Taste: Grainy, hint of roasted malt, corn, and a mild bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Thin, approaching fizzy.

Overall / Drinkability: A definite no frills beer, but for a light beer more flavorful than what I was expecting. It does remind me of the normal Yuengling, just less intense. Not something I would want to drink a lot of, but compared to other light beers I've had, not too bad. Good looking, pleasant smell, not tasteless, but nothing special.

This is a very enjoyable light beer. Pours almost a clear yellow, with an average head. The smell has a very light hint of grain and malt. The taste is crisp and kind of creamy, however it is very smooth. This is a light beer with a very decent flavor, however the low alcohol content is kind of a turn off because it takes awhile to just get a buzz off these.

As far as light beers go, this is one of the best most flavorful being offered. It definitely beats the major brand lights that so many folks drink mindlessly without any regard to flavor or character.

OIf thing before I write my review- I am reviewing this beer in comparison only to other light beers.

Appearance- A light amber color, really actually impressive looking for this category. Lots and lots of carbonation clinging to the side of the glass.

Smell- like nothing lol. Very light smell, slightly grassy maybe? Smells like lime seltzer water.

Taste- like seltzer almost lol. More flavor than Bud light or Coors light, that's for sure, but it's like someone added club soda to Yuengling's traditional lager. Not too bad actually, very very refreshing after a long day roofing.

Mouthfeel-light body with heavy heavy carbonation, too much for my taste, but still not terrible, and very refreshing still.

Overall- a decent light brew. Very refreshing, better than any BMC light beers. If I am going to drink a light beer though, Sam Adams make a phenomenal light brew. If that's unavailable, give me a yuengling light lager.

Surprisingly flavorful for a light beer, and very drinkably smooth without veering into blandness, and no bitterness whatsoever. Nothing amazingly special, but you'd know that when you see the word "light." The colder, the better. Will definitely be buying again.

Nice gold color, much richer than what I'd expect from a light beer. Large white cap quickly diminishing leaving some lacing.

Aroma is pretty nondescript, what there is I can find. I get some malt and something I can only call grain but almost nothing in the way of hops.

Taste is a good showing for the breed. Yuengling Light should be a lighter form of Yuengling, right? Well that's what this one is yet it does actually have taste and some character both of which I find often lacking in light beers. Entry brings a rounded flavor of malt with a slight sense of sweetness which remains until the quick finish. Still don't find much in the hop department (actually couldn't find the department) so what we're left with is a mild tasting yet quite easy drinking beer that belongs on ice in a cooler.

Texture is medium without excess carbonation.

Overall it does the job it set out to do and complaining about lack of flavor in a light beer seems as silly as going to a chicken joint and complaining the meat doesn't taste like steak. Dixie cup beer is Dixie cup beer and this one feels right at home.

After trying this beer while working in the US, I found it to be full bodied for an American light beer. I have tried many brands of light beer, and most of the drink like seltzer water. The balance of sweetness and bitters made this beer one of my favorite American Beers, just one step under Sam Adams light. I also like its low alcohol by volume, which is good for people that require lower alcohol beer. A satisfactory beer for my taste, although it is a very wet beer, compared to my favorite, Asahi Super Dry.

Yuengling Light Lager, been meaning to try this one for a while, finally picked up a 12 pack. They recently changed the packaging and Yuengling Light Lager is in a brown bottle like Yuengling Premium, which I thought was odd. Anyway...

Look: Holy Shit! I reviewed Shiner Light Blonde a while ago, thinking it was the best looking light beer there's ever been, and now I see this? Imagine pouring 3/4 of a Yuengling Traditional in a glass then 1/4 Budweiser. That's the color, a little lighter copper tone than Yuengling Traditional. Same 1-1 1/2 finger head when poured into a pint glass.
Smell: smells a little corny like Miller High Life, a hint of sweet and toasty malt. Slight floral hop but barely notable. Kinda like an AAL but no trace of alcohol and stronger scents of malt/hop.
Taste: actually pretty good. Not bad for a light, I blind taste tested my wife who tastes a few of my beers (rarely drinks a whole one unless it's Yuengling, Shiner Bock or a couple others), and asked her what she thought it was. She said Yuengling. It starts off like a Yuengling, malty and a little sweet, somewhat floral, easing into a bitter (somewhat hop tasting) end, the only difference is that this one finishes lighter with less aftertaste.
Feel: medium-medium light body, medium carbonation, finishes pretty light. Heavier feeling than most light Lagers.
Overall: not as good a Yuengling Traditional, and with that one being a 4.4 ABV brew (already close to the standard 4.1-4.3 ABV for light Lagers), this one comes in at 3.5 ABV, MUCH lower than a standard beer, and a lot lower than a standard light, which is somewhat a disappointment. I'm not going to be changing over to Yuengling Light Lager as my go-to beer for my beer softball league this year (Yuengling Traditional Lager still exists for the same price, often cheaper since it can be sold in a 24 pack and that's how I usually get it), but it's a good Lager and a damn good Light Lager. Good job, Yuengling.

People saying this beer is flavorless have obviously not had any other macro light beers to compare it to. I already think Yuengling is one of the better macro beers out there, and their attempt at a lighter lager is equally miles above what some other breweries are doing. Look is pretty standard: light brownish red with a thin head that quickly dissipated. Smell is kind of faint, but what is there is Yuengling's trademark corny/grainy sweetness and lightly toasted malt. Taste is more of the same, and actually pretty comparable to their traditional lager. I found it the tiniest bit sweeter and almost slightly artificial tasting because of that, but it definitely exceeded my expectations for a light beer. Feel is where this beer suffers the most. Much lighter in body and more watery than traditional lager. I also found mine to be lower in carbonation, and at first, it made the beer pleasantly creamy in mouthfeel...but by about halfway through, it just felt flat. Overall, a solid take on a light beer, and will probably become a staple in my fridge right alongside traditional lager.

Appearance- Amber/copper in color with a two to three finger width head.

Aroma- Caramel sweetness, grains, and a slight spicy hop note.

Taste- Bland caramel malt sweetness at first followed by a snap of carbonation and spicy (very mild) hops. The finish continues wit the bland malt flavors and no hops.

Feel- Light bodied, medium/high carbonation, and generally crisp and clean in the finish.

Overall- Pretty bland, but no offensive flavors and it gets the job done. A better option than most light lagers, but better options exist for session beers.

Yuengling Light Lager 3.2%ABV 12oz. bottle.

A- Light amber colored pour, with good half inch white head that leaves OK lacing.

S- Scents of light corn, little malts, decent sweetness.

T- Taste is mostly a lightly sweet malt with hint corn and a bit of hops. Smooth and simple mouth feel, even though good carbonation. Fuller bodied than most light beers., but quite refreshing. Minimal after taste.

Very drinkable, especially on a hot day. Only 99 calories!

Best in the readily available, light category.

Pours a dark amber color with a thin, white head that lingers. Smells of corn, slight malt and hop notes towards the end. Taste is lightly sweet, caramel malt flavor, with a hint of bitterness and hops towards the finish. Medium light body, mildly carbonated. For a light beer it's certainly not bad, one of the better of the bunch. Similar in flavor to the traditional lager, but not quite as flavorful.

I admit, this is my favorite American light lager beer. I had this tonight at Buffalo Wild Wings in Opelika, Alabama. I am happy Yuengling is spreading out, and I can find it now on tap in Alabama!

It tastes a little different on tap, and most notably, I didn't get the hop flavor as much, but I got a maltiness, that reminds me a little of Sam Adam's malt bill. I would have to brew a batch of Sam without the hops to compare the malts.

It pours a nice color, slightly darker than the usual American fizzy yellow beer. It has a slight aroma of maltiness, and a little alcohol smell. It doesn't retain much head.

The best part of this beer is I can drink it all night. It is smooth, has some flavor, and is cheap.

Great beer, great price.

Medium clear amber color. Thin head and light lacing. Smells of bread and yeast. Thin watery mouthfeel. This has a very good taste for a light beer. I can actually taste the toasted malt notes. Biscuity flavor that is outstanding for a light beer. Mildly hopped. This could almost be passed as a full bodied beer, if it weren't for the watery feel and slightly watered down taste. This has probably become my favorite light beer!
