Solid orange appearance looking like some good west coast ipas out there, 1/2" white head. Aroma lacked hops. In fact, it was a questionable development of buttery grain and bitterness to it.
Taste was more of the same, buttery malt lacking hops. Alcohol really pronounced. Look its fine if you want to stress balance in an ipa, but at least, shit man, make it decent and not questionable in terms of its amount of diacetyl rolling around.

This IPA is way better than the ratings.
To understand why, see the detailed review from BeerChitect. (my Like.)
The review from my malt-biased palate is Napa Smith does well with this IPA. It sells hops like its brethren, but doesn't go crazy when delivering. I tasted what malt is supposed to do; create subtle fruity flavors that tease the buds.
Had this IPA transferring in SF airport's Napa Farms Market, with the clever slug of "farm to flight."
History lesson. Napa's brewmaster is one of the founders of the craft beer movement. Started at New Albion almost contiguous with Anchor. (New Albion didn't have the cash to expand and went under, leaving Anchor the longest-standing.) He then went to Mendocino, later bought by a wine/spirits distributor; indicating the craft movement's early adulthood. And he now keeps producing beers at Napa Smith, figuring out how hops goes with food (which in my book, is not easy.) In my book, this man has settled all three frontiers.

Nice hazy copper color ipa. Hoppy with nice citris. On tap at Henleys Augustine.

Had on tap at Prima. L: Hazy copper with a 1” cream colored foam collar. S: fruit and bread T: Hop driven with citrusy hop bitterness but well balanced by the malt. F: Creamy, medium body, just under medium carbonation. O: I was happy to find this at Prima. It goes very well with a cob salad.

A solid IPA. Just slightly not as good as a Stone IPA.
