22oz brown bomber purchased from Jane's Beer Store in Mountain View, CA. Highly recommended by Jamison who served me. I was going to take it back to Sydney to share with my people back there, but Jamison told me I had to drink it tonight. Who am I to argue with a man with a name like Jamison?

Pours a very hazy amber-orange colour, with a very thick and pleasing head of eggy white that leaves excellent lacing and persists as a fine pocked film. Body is extremely thick, and the carbonation is extremely languid, especially when tilted, staying almost static in the glass. Looks very good indeed.

Nose is also very good, especially on the initial opening and pour. Plenty of fresh, green herbal tones—more herbal than citric, certainly—turning slightly grassy and earthy as well. Malt character is rounded, providing a little sweetness, but it's in no way forceful: this beer is about the hops and it knows it. Powerful stuff.

Taste is somewhat more predictable. Rather flat malt character spiced with a slight pithy hop bitterness that flattens out as well in the morass of the malt. Slight oaky characters come through on the back, giving a suggestion of dankness. For a 144IBU beer, the bitterness sure is weak on the back—but I think the oak couches it slightly. It's pleasantly balanced at least—aggressive bitterness would probably make it worse, but it's certainly no match for the aroma.

Feel is good. Smooth and fairly thick with a good basis.

Overall, it's certainly a good beer. Is it on par with the best US IPAs? No, it's really not. I like it just fine, but it's probably the equivalent of half-a-dozen other similar beers I could have bought just about anywhere. Sorry, Jamison.

Appearance: Pours a hazy copper color; the head is impressive and leaves a goodly amount of lace

Smell: Rather malt forward aromatics, with a lot of caramel and stone fruit; pine recessive

Taste: Caramel and stone fruit, up front, with a growing grassy/piney bitterness that devolves into pure bitterness, after the swallow and into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation; somewhat oily

Overall: Bought this a few weeks ago but now realize that the bottle has a year or so of age on it; perhaps the hops were more interesting when the beer was fresher but this is more like a hoppy Barleywine today and not a very good one, at that

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark golden brown color with a large foamy off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, earthy hops and some citrus.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus. Then a strong but not over-powering earthy hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is hearty and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid 2IPA to drink for a while.

Had on tap at the brewery in Napa.
It's a clear deep yellow, with a very small white head. Some visible carbonation.

Nose is heavy hops, as expected.

Taste is a hop bomb with an ethanol finish. Grassy. Not very subtle, but true to the west coast DIPA style. Some malts come through, but it could use more balance. Mouthfeel is good - well done.

Good overall. Hop heads will like this one. Either this or the porter is my favorite I tried from this brewery.

A big, giant hop-bomb, but kind of a mess. Dank bouquet with edges of overripe fruit. The flavors are bitter and sweet, but not harmoniously. Orange pith and resin define the profile. So many huge IPA out there that are far more drinkable, I wouldn't seek this out again.

A - poured with one finger of white foam on a hazy, amber-brown body. The had settles quickly and leaves thick lace.

S - a fruity aroma of orange with sweaty pine in the background.

T - pungent, sweaty hop flavors up front. Some caramel and sweet, bready malt in the middle that fades to clove and must citrus in the finish.

M - medium body, moderately high carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish.

D - a fruity, but sweaty dipa, not a top ten beer, but well made and better than average.

Pours a bright and clear gold color with a nice white head.

Aromas are stinky, resiny, with some citrus in the background.

Taste is semi sweet up front with hints of caramel malts. Finish is bitter, with some pine resin hoppiness on the finish. Fairly well balanced, but I'd like some more hop flavors.

Mouthfeel is nice, full and smooth without being heavy.

Overall, a pretty good stab at the style, a little refining and this could be a hit. I've thought Napa Smith has put out some mediocre beers, this is better than others I've tried from them.

Bomber poured into my Heretic Brewing shaker pint, Hopageddon is bright auburn with a small off-white head leaving scattered lace.

Smell is lots of citrus hops, big lime notes, lots of doughy malt.

Taste is hoppy for sure, generic west coast hop blend, more lime than pine, but it's really about the malt here, lots of bread. Alcohol character is sweet and spicy.

Mouthfeel is dry, medium+ bodied.

Drinkability isn't super high for me, this is too malty and strong. There is some pretty robust hop flavor, but it's pretty one dimensional with the lime. One and done here.
