I stopped in the other day to pick up a few things I needed for a trad. The store is fairly easy to get to, just a few miles off of 295. There is plenty of parking and the store was clean and well lit. There is only one aisle devoted too beer, but the selection is pretty strong. They had the expected locals, FF, victory, DFH, and Weyerbacher to name a few. There were also selections from the Bruery, and a strong Belgian selection. The singles selection was great and they offered discounts on sixers of singles. I struck up a conversation with the guy stocking the shelves and he was knowledgeable and helpful. The prices were very competitive. A good store in a good chain.

Clean & bright. Good craft selection, but not amazing. Steady turnover of the stock.

One of the few places in SJ that gets Kane on the growler station. Decent growler selection, but rarely outstanding.

Limited releases? Good luck...

VIBE AND SELECTION: Not a craft beer focused location, but Selection is pretty good as far as bottle selection goes.

Growler station usually has very mediocre beers on it, and is not worth it most of the time (sometimes there is one good beer out of the eight or so taps).

SERVICE: Store associates are not knowledgeable about beer at all, and usually have to ask each other for help when it comes to seeing if they have something in the back or when something will be releasing.

PRICING: Middle of the road.

Very good selection of craft beer. They sell many in six packs and many more in single bottles. good selections of craft beer in the cold section. They now have a eight tap growler station. Prices for growlers is reasonable. Check their web site to see what's on tap.

Stopped by here on a recent trip to Jersey

This is Canal's without the Joe on the sign, essentially the same place, this store is full of beer, wine and a ton of liquor. A nice selection of Belgians, American craft, Germans(although I don't purchase Germans in NJ, too risky), Cider, and beer from Various countries. Watch your Dates..Service was pretty good, nice people. No food per say but there is some snack machines and some gum up front if you have bad breath. If you been to one you've been to them all.

This Canal's location has become a mainstay on my Jersey beer runs. A buddy of mine lives near here so I stopped in to check out the selection.

Like other Canal's locations, this is a large warehouse filled with wine and liquor, but they also have an impressive selection of craft beers. There is a long aisle in the middle of the store in which both sides are dedicated to beer. They also have a clearance section n the back of the store with out of code bottles for insanely cheap prices. There is a lot of stuff you don't want like old hoppy beers but every once n a while you can find a gem in there for very low prices. Allagsh 750s for under $10!

Their main selection is very impressive with a wide selection of styles, breweries and countries. Lots of Belgian and German beers, including a few sours and large format bottles. Almost every beer they carry is available in single bottle format which s awesome. Breweries represented include Founders, Stillwater, Fantome, Struise, Firestone Walker, Schenider, Hitachno, Allagash, 't Smijse, all of the locals and a ton more.

The wide selection, low prices and pleasant service make this place a great destination for beer shopping. Recommended to anyone in the area.

Right up the Black Horse Pike heading north toward Camden this Canals is the best that I have visited in South Jersey. Pretty solid craft beer aisle. Strong selection of Belgium beers (Chimay, St. Bernardus etc.) They carry all the local PA/NJ brewers, Yards, PBC, Weyer, Troeggs, FF, Victory. They also have a small seasonal section for Oktoberfest beers in the fall and Christmas Ales in the winter.

Other Craft Breweries I've seen there
Founders
Laugunitas
Brooklyn
North Coast Brewing
Stone
GLBC
Rogue
Southern Tier

Another of the seemingly endless chain of Canal's in South Jersey, this establishment picks up the mantle of an improved selection the same as the other stores, and carries it proudly. Parking out front seems a tad ominous, what with Black Horse Pike buzzing by rambunctiously behind your car, but it is manageable. And it's a new building, with mandatory yellow exterior, and a warm, nicely lit interior, clean and bright where needed.

The beer takes up a few aisles, offering, sixes, cases, and singles. Everything is clean and dusted, conscientiously fronted, and best of all, as far as I could see, well within any suggested expiration dates. The cold section is standard issue and, as expected, dominated by macro-esque offerings, though plenty of craft is available cold should you need it.

Maybe the newness is still yet to wear off the staff, but they were cordial and unobtrusive. One young fellow asked me if he could help me find anything in particular, then suggested I seek him out if needed once I told him I was browsing. And they offer a mailing list, though I didn't enroll so I can't speak to its efficacy.

The selection is a genuine strength. Honestly, the only thing that stops me from scoring it higher is the fact that there's nothing here you can't get elsewhere. However, what makes this a destination is the fact that, if it's available in South Jersey, there's a better than even chance you can find it here, including limited releases such as Southern Tier, Brooklyn, and others. All the locals are in place, pretty much across the board, as well as the cast of outlanders such as Founders, Flying Dog, Stone, etc., etc., etc. Belgian, German, English, Czech, and many more countries are represented, including Lithuania (shameless homeland plug over.) So maybe it's not the source for anything truly hard to find, but if you want almost anything conventionally available in these parts, there's a good bet you'll find it under one roof here.

Prices are reflective of the chain's great buying strength. The stores are boxes with plenty of storage, so drop ships save much money, passing lower costs on to the consumer. Volume is king. Not that I'd fore-go my smaller, homier shops, but sometimes I don't feel like paying $2 more for something just for the kind chit-chat, especially in these strapped times.

It seems Canal's has easily surpassed Joe Canal's as South Jersey's prime craft brew chain source. And when you throw that selection into a new, accessible, friendly establishment, you have a winner. And Pennsy folk, it's a stone's throw and a straight run off the Walt Whitman. Not that I'm advocating breaking any laws mind you. But it might be worth it.
