BEER REVIEW #800. Sampled back on 1/23/16. Comes in a 500ml (1 pint, 6 ounces) heavy reusable clay bottle with a ceramic stopper with a swing top. Picked it up from Spirit World in Omaha also on Saturday for $15.99, which is the most I ever paid for a single brew. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a 20-ounce "ROCK BOTTOM MUG CLUB" handled-glass stein.

Brew pours a hazy golden-yellow in color with a huge 4-finger foamy/creamy head that faded fairly quickly to like 5mm. Some sheet-like lacing is seen when sipped. Aroma is of grains, citrus and spices. Taste is close to the nose with a well balance of spices (nutmeg and cinnamon) with some orange zest in the mix also but isn't overpowering. No harsh or bitter aftertaste was noted. Lighter-side of medium-bodied with average carbonation. Overall, a expensive tasty brew.

This is not a Saison. It is the same beer as St. Sebastiaan Golden with a unique bottle.

Appearance: Pale hazy golden color with hues of orange beneath a quickly fading white head. Lots of carbonation and visible sediment (expected from a naturally carbonated beer).

Aroma: Not a lot of nose. There is a faint sweet caramel scent and what smells like cotton candy.

Taste: Not much flavor here. A bit of a cider character interlaced with yeast flavor. A very watered down light caramel flavor.

Mouthfeel: It is a very light bodied beer that is extremely drinkable for it's ABV.

Overall: It was pretty average. If you are a bottle collector or a fan of St. Sebastiaan's Golden, you will want to pick this up just for the collectable nature of the bottle. The beer does a good job of keeping a very low profile on flavor but without enough nuance to make it interesting.

A: Pours a straw color with a white head, from a really cool ceramic swing top bottle.

S: Citrus in the nose, along with typical saison spiciness (cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg).

T: Dominant flavor is orange, with some very slight grassy notes, as well as cardamom, nutmeg, typical saison spiciness.

M: Medium-light bodied, average carbonation for a saison.

O: An excellent example of the saison style, definitely worth a try. I'm surprised this isn't on here. I see it all the time at bevmo. This was my introduction to the saison style, and I'm surprised my notes are as detailed as they are, given that it was probably one of my first couple hundred beers.
