Served on-tap at Al's of Hampden.
A - Pours pitch black with a nice one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving sticky webs of lace on the sides of the glass.
S - Smells of dark roasted malt, chocolate, dash of earthy hops and some dark fruit. Not as much hops as I was expecting it to have.
T - Starts off much like the nose does with plenty of dark roasted malt and slightly sweet chocolate quickly being joined by some faint fruitiness and some nice hop bitterness. Finish is pretty roasty initially with a surprising amount of bitterness breaking through afterwards, lingering long after the finish.
M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, roasty feel with some bitterness hiding in the shadows.
O - Wasn't really sure what to make of this one when I first heard about it but it worked out pretty well. The hops don't really come through in the nose very well but they are better in the taste and feel. Worth the try if you have the chance.
