Poured out as a nice looking black color with a brown head on top. The smell of the beer has some subtle chocolate on the nose as well as some coffee and spice. The taste of the beer is has more coffee and spice coming off of it than the nose. The feel of the beer is full bodied. Overall I thought this was a pretty good variant of the Sunny Side Up line.

32 oz. crowler. Black body. Leggy with what looks like a lot of residual sugars. Smells of chocolate and a lot of cinnamon. A little bit of pepper. Mostly cinnamon, though. Taste has a lot of cinnamon. Chocolate. Very light peppers. Medium body. Medium carbonation. I was worried I wouldn't like this, but it tastes pretty nice. Cinnamon is much stronger than the peppers.

Pours a dark brown to black color with less than a finger of head. The nose is deeply roasty with a strong coffee essence. The flavor follows the nose and is complemented well with a very modest heat that accentuates but does not overwhelm the other flavors. There is a subtle cinnamon essence as well but it is hardly noticeable.

Poured from crowler into tulip. Looks like motor oil coming out of the can. Strong smell of coffee with a bit of the cinnamon coming through. Taste is first a nice fresh coffee with chocolate notes, the chiles come in after, but are very mild, would have liked to taste them a little more. This beer definitely reminds me of Hunaphu, but tamed down. Very nice brew from Pizza Boy, look forward to trying to the normal SSU.

Pours a very dark brown that settles into the glass with a thick, sticky mocha-colored head. Aroma is big on roasty coffee, hints of cocoa and noticeable cinnamon. Flavor follows suit; huge roasty dark coffee, notes of cinnamon, a hint of smokiness from the peppers. Feel is thick, full bodied, slightly gritty-feeling, medium carbonation. A really nice subtle change from the original. Cinnamon adds a lot, peppers add a little and the dominate, delicious coffee is still there.

Pours dark chocolate color, with a thick, creamy light brown head. Really a good looking beer.

Tastes like dark chocolate with chillies. Nose is the same. Tons of dark chocolate lingering for a while after. Cinnamon comes out as it warms up.... Chocolate.

Medium mouthfeel compared to how thick it poured.

This beer pours a jet black color with a dense 2 finger mocha head. Retention is solid and there is sparse spotted lacing. Smell is very strong coffee up front along with subtle scents of chocolate, peppers, cinnamon and roasted malt that make themselves more known as the beer warms. Taste is the same, but the chocolate, peppers and cinnamon are much more pronounced than in the smell. There is also a hint of sweetness. Feel is medium and slick. Overall this beer is fantastic. I wish the body was a bit more full, but for a 9.5% it's probably just about right.

Pitch black with a small light tan head and small lacing. Notes of coffee, chocolate, chile pepper, cinnamon and light vanilla. Medium toward full body with lower carbonation and creamy feel. This is on the same level as Abraxas but possible a notch below.

Poured from a growler into a tulip glass:

A: Jet black color with a nice dark brown head that dissipates fairly quickly.
S: Lots of coffee on the nose. Some spices too.
T: Coffee up front with some lingering spices that aren't overpowering at all.
F: Super smooth and drinkable. You'd have no idea it's almost 10%.
O: This is my favorite Sunny Side Up yet. I really hope Al's/Pizza Boy keeps brewing this.
