A 1L growler from Al's.

A: The pils is golden and clear, a brilliant lager for a beautiful day. The lightness of the pils is matched only by the snow white landscape of the head; plenty of lacing follows.

S: Clean, aggressive hops leap out of the glass, a wall of earthy floral grasses wafts out of the glass. Very enthralling, a wicked pils aroma that has pale biscuit in the background.

T: The hops do a 180 from Arck Angel. Not sharply bitter; rather the grassiness is crisp and bold. The bite segues nicely into a chewy biscuit body but that bitterness remains. (Cue Marianne Faithfull singing...) The lively hoppiness is a revelation, more than I was expecting. Solid hops and biscuity finish.

M: A good pils, plenty of hoppiness and a sweet malt tang. My only question though, and this is for Nate, a double pils? At 5.1%? Let's agree to leave the imperialistic double out of the mix

Served on-tap at Al's of Hampden into a pizza boy pils glass.

A - Pours clear straw yellow with a fluffy two finger tall white head leaving very light streaks of lace down some of the glass.

S - Smells of doughy malt, spicy yeast and a light hop bitterness. I can already tell the malt is strong in this one.

T - Starts off with a big dose of chewy malt and slightly spicy yeast kick slowly giving way to a very light hop bitterness initially, growing a little stronger as it sits in the glass. Finish is very chewy with a tiny bit of hop bitterness lingering around for quite awhile after consumption.

M - Heavy body with a very light flavor and moderate carbonation. The chewy feel is strong throughout, lingering long after the finish.

O - A decent pilsner but I really prefer my Pils to be crisp and clean and this one was just too doughy for my tastes.
