I've been going to the Gingerman fairly frequently since I got a job in Downtown dallas in 2001. It's a nice, reasonably homey pub, with somewhat English styling: panelled in wood all around, nice little alcoves, dart boards available. There's a patio out back and a balcony up top, and a nice little room upstairs with sofas and tables, like one occasionally finds at English pubs. Parking is sometimes a problem, esp. since there's been construction on the nearby streets lately. There is a lot of beer memorabilia around: lots of bottles, including those of microbreweries no longer around; custom glassware, and different coasters each week; assorted old-fashioned signs, mostly of European beers. The music (by jukebox) is occasionally turned up too loud, annoyingly loud to my ears. And it's a little too smoky for my tastes, when crowded. I hate having my clothes smell like smoke for days later.

The selection is pretty good for Dallas: about 50 or 60 beers on draft, and about a similar number in bottles. Some of the ales are served a bit cold for my taste. They've had cask-conditioned ales a couple times, but when I've tried it (a St Arnolds beer, from the Houston brewery), it was past its prime. Prices are about what one would pay at other beer-aware bars in the area, like the Flying Saucer.

Service can be very poor when they're crowded. At times, I've waited at the bar for upwards of 10 minutes without service. Waitresses occasionally wander around taking orders, but some nights you can't count on them all to ever show up.

The selection is food is pretty limited: fresh pretzels (which are actually very good), a few sandwiches, or a plate of meats, olives, and cheeses. The cheeses are standard American grocery store variety: cheddar, swiss, pepper-jack.

On tuesday nights, they have 'free glass night', where they select one beer (occasionally 2 or 3), and give out a matching glass for that beer. Now most of the time the glass is a standard American pint glass, but I've gotten some nice glasses there over the years, like Duvel, Chimay, and other Belgian chalice glasses, and some high-quality German weizen glasses, like Aventinus.

With a few reservations, a very nice pub to visit after work, especially if you're downtown. Old Monk is nicer, but it's often impossible to get parking.

Fantastic place. Great old pub feel. Wood, wood, wood, wood. Taps, copper, beer garden and an upstairs lounge style laid back area. It's a great place. I don't smoke cigars, but they have them. The ladies behind the bar were great. Christine and Whitney... Thanks.

This place is absolutely a craft beer lover's dream come true. The atmosphere is amazing, dark lighting, dark lacquered wood, warm and lively company downstairs and quieter more relaxed atmosphere upstairs with armchairs and couches. The outside area with the overlooking loft effectively gives you 4 different locations you can sit down and drink at and I find myself moving around from beer to beer. The staff is SO knowledgeable and friendly, they will gladly let you sample any beer you like or help you choose a brew based on what you like. The selection is amazing, I've always been extremely impressed with what they have to offer, both on tap and in bottles. The food I gave a medium rating simply because they only really serve a small numbers of snack / appetizer items, its just not a food kind of bar. HIGHLY recommend this one to anyone in the area!!!!
