Draft at the brewpub in Seattle.

Pours a dark amber, almost brown color with mahogany edges and a two finger beige head that slowly settles into a lasting cap.  Streaks of lace left behind.

Vinous dark fruit aroma with a subtle dark malt presence and faint boozy sweetness.  Hints of raisin, plum and fig followed by smokey meat, chocolate and caramel.

Finally some sweetness!!  Tried five of their beers and this is the most balanced.  Vinous dark fruit countered by roasted and sweet malt notes with subtle boozy sweetness in a dry, spicy finish.  Hints of grape, fig, plum and raisin followed by caramel malt, toffee and peppery spice. Well balanced and easy to drink. Faint booze flavor but the ABV is nicely balanced.

This is a very cheerful beer that has surprising depth and yet lightness. Pours with a tinge of orange and honey hues that captivate the eye on a cola brown body. Slight tan head in my small tasting glass but refreshed with each turn and clung in sheets. Nose is dark fruits, a light sugar and caramel. The caramel becomes a bit nutty as it warms. Taste is rich sweet dry bread with nutty undertones. dark fruits and something very earthy. Not really coffee or chocolate but more cocoa. Just sweet from the alcohol andfrom the dried dark fruits like raisin. This beer comes right up to roasty qualities, like smoke but teases only and leaves it deep and earthy.. It stays breaddy and malty but only lightly sweet. Mouthfeel is superb. Vinous, perfectly dry, crisp from a carbonation that tickles. It's actually brisk.A light malty sweetness to linger and lots of nuts..

Served in straight pint glass. Poured the expected ruby-brown color with about a half-inch of tan head that had decent retention and lacing.

The aroma had a nice, rich fruity scent with a hint of spice and yeast. The flavor was fairly representative of the style, but not quite as bold as some I've had.

The body was also about average for the style, full and smooth. Drinkability was nice, the went down easily and I enjoyed a couple in a row. Overall, a decent, if not exceptional take on a classic style. Worth a shot if you see it.
