They call this Winter Warmer an "English style strong ale." Dark brown color and not much foam in the tulip. A little fizz to start but it all flattens out quickly.

Quite sweet with a buttery and burnt taste. Smells of old coffee. A sugary and bitter medicine. Thoroughly undrinkable. On tap at the brewery restaurant. [from notes on 25 Nov. 2014 visit]

A: Poured a deep brownish color with some crimson highlights sporting a dirty white head which fades leaving some bubbles and moderate lacing

S: The nose leads me to some chocolate, dark fruits, molasses and a light booze sting

T: I culd have confused this with a Winter Warmer. Chocolate, a light roast hint of light spice buried beneath a dark fruitiness, molasses.

M: Fuller bodied, well carbonated. A bit sticky on the finish but warming and pleasant.

O: A pretty good whirl at it but when i drink this an English style Old Ale does not come to mind.

Served in 10oz goblet. Poured a very nice deep red-ish mahogany color with about 1/2 inch of tan head that had good retention and lacing.

The aroma was solidly malty, a bit sweet, with just a touch of alcohol, and a generally solid presence. On the tongue the malts provide a solid base, upon which there are leather, tobacco, and spice notes. There is just the right amount hops to provide contrast and balance.

The body is full and well rounded, without being heavy or sticky. Drinkability is dangerously good, it's probably an excellent idea to only serve these in a 10oz serving. Overall, another very fine job from the guys at NC. A must try if you see it.
