Style: Witbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly La Trappe

The world’s first and only white Trappist ale that continues to ferment slightly after bottling. Brewed using only water, wheat, and hops. No herbs are added. Saphir hops give the ale its citrusy aroma. A real thirst-quencher on a hot summer’s day that also makes for a delicious drink at any other time of the year.

A little bit sour but tastes great overall. Less smoother than Hoegaarden in the same category.

Served in a St. Bernardus chalice, it pours a pale yellow, hazy, with a three-finger creamy head with some retention. After the head dissipates a constant ring of foam remains at the rim of the glass.

The bouquet is pleasing. Huge bubblegum, banana, wheat, honey, citrusy as in lemon, orange, malty sweetness, slightly spicy.

Very expressive carbonation upfront. Short after, a mildly bitter taste enters the frame with notes that follow the nose accurately. There is also a very refreshing, herbal note, which lingers long.
The finish, in contrast with the dominant flavor, is predominantly sweet, and long.
Medium to light body, slightly smooth.

Very nice beer.

On draught at iTap CWE. Hazy gold, thin head, aromas of citrus and yeast. Spicy wit flavors, refreshing, a unique Trappist Wit.

An ale that doesn't try too hard, but does everything correctly.
All components work well together.
See Beerchitect's review to know what I mean.

Tasted in a La Trappe Witte Trappist tulip glass from draught at Firkin on May 2, 2016. Look is cloudy gold with a thick white head and sticky lacing.

The beer comes in a clear straw color.

The aroma hits of grainy sweetness, clove, wheat, hints of sweet citrus.

The flavor offers grainy and bready sweetness, wheat, a gentle hint of spice with clove, banana, a bright effervescent carbonation and medium minus mouthfeel as the slowly drives off the palate with lingering wheat flavors.

Fruity and spicy, this one has a bit of a nip to it. Citrusy with a touch of coriander, pale golden with a thin head. A bit of tang on the roof of the mouth finishes it...

Bottle 330 ml | Batch # K27C15 10:55 | Best before end of 09-2016 | Bar code 8 711406 985489
Served in glassware similar to original La Trappe Witte Trappist

Appearance: Light pale yellow, Foggy | 25 mm foam head (middle density, not stable) | Quick small bubbles
Smell: Wheat is the priority
Taste: Wheat, middle carbonated, unstable - from Sour taste at very beginning, Watery in a middle and Bitter at the end
