Style: Dubbel
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%
Availability: Year-round
Notes / Commercial Description:
La Trappe Dubbel has a deep brown colour and attractive beige froth. The use of caramel malt gives it a gentle aromatic caramelised quality. It has a rich malty flavour with a touch of sweetness. Post-fermenting La Trappe Dubbel is a smooth drink, and yet has some real body and intense flavour to it.

From the 740 ml bottle in a snifter. This nice dubbel pours a reddish brown
color with nice clarity and a very nice head of off white foam that settles to a
thick ring, nice clumping pool, and shows some nice light sudsy lacing. nose of
light cocoa, some subtle cola and dark sugar notes notes, light raisin, subtle earthy
malts, and light floral attributes. The taste is much as the nose with a floral note swathed
in drown sugar and more of a date flavor than raisin with hints of cocoa mingling nicely
with cola touches of cherry and light cranberry on the rear of the taste. Very nice mouth
feel that is lightly airy with carbonation and yeast notes that blend nicely into a medium
light body and a lightly sweet with a hint of dark fruit finish.
Overall, another fine ale from a fantastic brewery.
Cheers!

Poured from just over fridge temp and allowed to warm. Pours a nice dark golden reddish brown with great head. Nose is caramel, malts, wood, and dark fruit (cherries mostly). Taste is really great. Slight bitterness upfront. Nice caramel, wheat, bark, and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Overall, a great dubbel.

Very nice brew. The smell is extraordinary. Reminds me on apples in a cellar. No bitterness in the initial taste. Almost like a nicely balanced a apple pie. No alcoholic after taste at all.
If you like Belgian doubles. This is the One.

Look: It pours dark amber with some reddish hues. It has moderate head retention that is tan. It is also fairly clear.
Smell: The initial aromas are malty rich with some fruit. Apples and dried cherries and prominent with some toast and a hint of chocolate. There are some rose like aromas in addition to the above.
Taste: The apples and dried cherries are very prominent in the initial flavor with a bit of toast and low caramel in support. There is a bit of low floral in the background and very low raisin flavors. The balance is fairly even.
Feel: It has a medium body with medium carbonation and some alcohol warmth that is smooth.
Overall, it is a pleasant fruity-malty beer with depth and complexity especially in the fruit.

L - dark red brown gradient with beige head which dissipates quickly
S & T - candy banana taste of the yeast up front, then honey like caramel malt sweetness. Slightly dry but clean aftertaste. No bitterness at all.
F - nice and spritzy, dries the tongue, slightly clogs up the back of your throat with that sugary soda quality
O - bit of a disappointment. Not much going on save for the sweets. Disclaimer: I do not like the banana yeast taste in beers, so I may be biased against this beer from the get go. I prefer Westmalle dubbel myself.
I don't particularly recommend this one.

almost black color with beige head, but head retention isn't very strong. smells roasted malts, molasses, burnt sugars and slight banana (like all other la trappe styles). taste is a bit sweet. medium bodied and overly carbonated. clean aftertaste. I would love this more if there is more abv and dryness.
