La Trappe Tripel’s aroma is slightly malty and estery. Despite its full, rich flavour, this out-of-the-ordinary ale still has a light and dry aftertaste with a touch of bitter finesse.

Large bottle picked up at the LCBO.

Poured into a fluted pilsner glass. Darker than many a tripel I've come across, pushing in to light amber territory. Hazy, with a large frothy head. Good lacing, retention.

Nose is light fruit (pear, lemon, peach), yeast.

Solid tripel, a bit standard, but certainly highly enjoyable. Paired nicely with some bbq rainbow trout and basmati. Light, citrusy, airy, a bit of yeast and pale Belgian malt. Finishes quite dry. Strong carbonation, dry feeling on the tongue.

If you're looking for a solid tripel, look no further. (One benefit of the LCBO is that this brew is fairly cheap ($6.45 for the bomber), so it's a good brew to try.) There are other nicer, more complex tripels to be had out there, Belgian, Canadian, American or otherwise, but this is no slouch. Another fine trappist ale.

(750 ml bottle, corked/caged, L19D23, best before 04-2025; purchased off shelf at BobKat... decanted into La Trappe chalice)

L: clear amber liquid, loose foam building atop then falling into frothy cap kept afloat by etching in glass bottom... scant lace

S: flowery meadow, followed by apple (cider), then finally fermenting dough; fruity (apple, pear) overtone most dominant, with some soft bubblegumy spice accents... almost has a passing whiff of Benedictine

T: surprising definition of honey-kissed cereal malts up front, with those bubblegum notes meeting a golden bread crumb in the aftertaste... very delicate white pepper late in between sips, with only very little overt alcohol bite detected... lacks distinct, contrasting nuances (grassy, minerally, estery) despite some parallels in yeast/sugar qualities unique to their Quad... 4.375 at best

F: light bodied, lifting to a degree, with some slight viscosity/legs emanating perhaps from the blend of alcohol and unfermented sugars... marginally sticky in the aft, like syrup residue... apparently well-carbonated, gas often escaping my beer hole... second glass in, and the alcohol has now built a rumbling warmth; too easy drinking

O: a solid tripel, definitely in my top 10, but it lacks personality compared to my style faves... next bomber of this is for sharing, I hope (2275)

33 cL bottle, poured into a Tripel Karmeliat snifter, in Toulouse, France. Orangish gold brew lifts a lingering white foam that dissipates too soon. Sketchy lace.
Nose is both fruity and malty, not a lot of forebearing.
Taste is malt front, then a short rat-a-tat burst of yeast, esters, green apple, honey, clove (wrapped in a banana peel), slight hop bitterness, then a dry sweet washout.
Mouth is medium bending toward light, there’s spritzy carbonation.
Overall, nice traditional Tripel.

750 ml bottle into a tulip snifter. L28A21 date code, had 12/6/22. Not sure if that’s in the best by window.

Pours a clear, slightly orange golden color with a two inch foamy head with decent retention and a good amount of foamy lacing. Aromas of banana on first pour, wheat, clove, coriander, malt, some Belgian yeast, maybe some other spices. Flavors of light banana- again, on the first pour, Belgian yeast, malt, wheat, spices. Smooth, a very good lighter medium body, appropriately carbonated.

A solid, traditional take on the style. Probably should have had this sooner, but it was still very good.

Crisp, higher than expected carbonation. Head subsides rapidly.
Surprised at it's lightness. Definite peach aroma, pervasive freshness of apple in taste. Slightly sticky in the mouth afterwards. Alcohol quite subtle as for a trippel. Very enjoyable ale indeed.

Yields a golden color with a bigger, eggshell colored head.

Smells of rich wheat, pines and honey, together with a drop of caramel and wooden, spicy noble hops.

Has a truly well put effervescent mouthfeel with a well nuanced balance to it, featuring a light bodied, refreshing beer.

Tastes of matured, herbal hops, sweeter turning toffee and a dose of honey, getting balanced by a lively, yet nuanced effervescence. Offers spicy hay, wet leaves and lighter caramel then, together with a cleansing blow from the maintaining, higher carbonation burst. Finishes with earthy, bitter cardamom, soothing honey and maintaing, subtle, leafy hops.

Very versatile, well balanced and elegant on the tongue. It‘s higher abv allows quite an elaborated, finely nuanced complexity, which conquers the palate slow but steady, after establishing a malty, rustic foundation, which always leaves room for a convincing crispness.

750ml bottle into a teku. Best I can tell, 2020 vintage, 2 years old.

Looks really nice. Bright orange amber body with good streams of carbonation. Bright white head persists in good form throughout leaving scattered lacing.

Sweet malty aroma.

On tasting, smooth, slightly sweet. Abv felt.

Mouth medium, finish slightly drying and a featherlight bitter note.

Overall, clean and very easy drinking. Lacks the body and strength of the top tripels, but not bad at all.
