This is a pretty hipster spot. Bar with seats in the middle of the space with tables on the outskirts. They had around 15 beers on tap and some in bottles. The bartender I had was a bit abrupt and rude.

The York is a great bar but Highland Park, the area where it's located in is unpleasant. There are severe tensions from financially disadvantaged people of the surrounding neighborhood who feel entitled to insult and physically abuse anybody they perceive as being new to the neighborhood or a "gentrifyer". Visitors to the York or walking nearby have been taunted and physically attacked by local anti-gentrification activists who sometimes wear masks and cuss with severe profanity. Be mindful and take precautions when visiting the York. The York has great paintings from local artists inside the bar. Too bad some of the locals of Highland Park are abusive towards anybody perceived as being a gentrifyer...

Another pub under the "that's not what that name means" list, along with Red Lion Tavern. A name like The York conjures images of a British Pub, but instead is the name of a trendy American gastropub which happens to be located on York St. Parking is limited on the street, and I had to park a block away before I could think about entering. Inside, the place is hopping with the under-40 crowd. Most of the tables and seats were occupied, but I found I spot for myself. There's no waiter/waitress service; you order at the bar from the chalkboard menu that's posted on the wall, which includes beer and food. That said, my fish and chips did come out quick (and was yummy).

About a dozen taps plus at least two dozen containers. Good selection of beers to be had from Goose Island, Hangar 24, Stone, Taps, Figueroa Mountain, Belhaven. Beer was served in a standard shaker pint, but tasted fresh and not served too cold. And for a gastropub, the beer prices were surprisingly affordable ($5 for Stone Pale Ale).

Whether the occasion is dinner and drinks or just drinks, The York has it to make it a good night.

Nice little spot in Highland Park, not too far from my current hideout. There's usually plenty of females here, so that's nice. That being said, about half of them are ok to look at, and half of those have boyfriends...

Ok so I'm here to review the place, but hey, atmospher is atmosphere... and it's pretty brightly lit compared to Johnny's down the street. High ceilings give it a nice feel but what's up with the metal tables and chairs? My roids are gonna start flaring up.

Service is usually pretty prompt, although the bartenders do like to gab with customers, which I don't mind much as long as I get my brew quick. Staff is pretty friendly all in all.

Selection isn't all that great or large, but they do have some taps that rotate so there are some seasonals that I've seen and some that just come and go. All in all, a decent selection, nothing spectacular.

All the times I've been here, I've never tried the food. I guess I'd rather smell like booze than fried chicken when I walk my drunk ass across the street to Marty's and pick up on the girls there (hahaha just kidding!).

All in all, a cool place to go to, not too difficult to edge up to the bar, got a lot of seating (which is usually almost always full) and usually pretty jumping.

Definitely a hip, trendy new place in NELA. It can be kind of loud and dark if you are more of a quiet, laid-back person. Especially on weekend nights. Not being open during the day during the week hurts with any potential lunchtime visits.

Overall, the atmosphere leans heavily toward trendy, with 30-somethings wandering around, not noticing the screen (note, singular) at the back wall with old films projected onto it, without accompanying sound. Overall a pleasant experience.

The beer selection is decent, and a full liquor license helps. Good food supplements the brews nicely, and is a tasty variety for many tastes and wants. (However, the fish and chips seem to be taking a grease bath when they arrive at the table.)

Service lacks in the sense that all food and beer orders must be placed at the bar. No table orders here, but the food is delivered to you. The bar staff is pretty efficient, though, speeding up the process a bit.

No real surprises in the beer list, both tapped and bottled. But a good solid mix allows for some enjoyment, especially when paired with a more than adequate and tasty food menu.

Food ... see above for comments on a good variety and great tastes.

Overall, the value comes back to being a bit on the trendy side. Not a big downer or unexpected, just not quite worth going out of your way for.
