dark brown with a good opaqueness to it. A nice small tan colored head rose up above it and lasted for a few moments before settling down to just a thin layer of lace that covered the top and left behind a good amount of side glass presentation in its wake. Some slight reddish tints on the sides and bottom of the glass, but this one was nearly black in its presentation.

The aroma was subtle, not nearly as strong as I thought it would be. Light aromas of coffee and smoked wood were the dominant players here with a touch of a spiced note playing in the back of it. Not the big smoky aroma you would have expected, much more subtle. Good amount of sweetness mixed in as well, hints of caramel and lots of malt. The flavor followed suit pretty much exactly. Nice smooth creamy feel, with a good carbonation gave it a very full body. The flavor of roasted coffee came rolling through first, with a good dose of caramel thrown in on top of it, lightening it up. The middle seemed to have that nice smoked wood flavor that I was looking for,

Had while at the brewpub during a trip to Asheville. Served from tap into a sampler shaker. Poured blan with a half finger tan head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, dark chocolate, slight sweet malt, and caramel. The flavor was of sweet malt, dark chocolate, cream, roasted malt, and caramel. It had a light feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. The flavors on this one were a little watered down and defniitely needed to shine more. The flavors that were present though were quite good if I'm honest. If this were more robust it would be quite awesome. Worth trying if you aren't trying to get trashed out in Asheville.

Black in color - no light coming through at all. No head or lacing, but this was from a growler shipped from NC, and could be different with a fresher pour.

Similar aroma and flavors - milk and dark chocolate, light coffee, roasted malt, and a touch of vanilla. Flavor has mild hops with more bitterness from the roasted malts. Very tasty.

Light-medium in body, thinner then expected. Super smooth and so easy to drink. Finished the growler in two day.

Great session stout with plenty of flavor. Very enjoyable. I'd love to try this straight from the tap. Thanks to ahatcher78 for sending this my way in Black Booty '08!

a: It's no surprise that this one is nearly black in color. Light retention of the mocha head.

smell and taste: Off the bat, I get an extraordinary molasses presence that's quite rare in my experience and a great surprise. It comes through clean and tempered-sweet on the tongue, but is found on the nose as well. Great milk chocolate and roast aromas and flavors. Light, earthy hop flavor and an appropriately low-med bitterness. Almost leans toward the sweet/milk stout side of things. Delicious.

m: full and smooth body, medium-low carbonation

d: very enjoyable
