Way expensive unless of course you think $130 for a bottle of hanapuah stout is ok.

Everything is old - which is fine for the stouts but not for many other styles.

located a stone's throw from Dupont Circle, and just across the street from Paradiso

the fellow working the desk and the guys stocking shelves were pretty friendly, offering help and whatnot

selection was quality, numerous interesting bombers and 750's, as well as a very respectable lot of six-packs, both warm and cold storage, lots of light exposure for the room temp beers

prices pretty ridiculous imo, some items were a good 3-5 dollars higher than elsewhere, and essentially all of them ranging high

Decided to kill five minutes in here during a walk around DuPont and was not disappointed with the selection of beer or spirits (funny enough, I bought no beer but a bottle of absinthe that I can get cheaper in Manhattan but decided what the ----). That being said, I had a "doorman" watching me at the beers and then when I walked to the liquor section I had a second guy asking me what I wanted and he will walk me to there (which he did and was nice about it so I can't really knock the service). The only thing that prevented me from splurging (OK, the one bottle of absinthe was a splurge but I live in Va Beach so I can't just somewhere close to home to find good stuff) was the price on everything. They had bottles of beer that I can't get anywhere else not only in sunlight/high temps but priced so high that sticker shock was my first reaction. I guess it's worth going at least once if you're an out of towner like me.

As things are with Dupont it's a pricey neighborhood.

The good thing though when you enter 1 West is that it's a very well organized store and extremely clean. That's the first thing you notice.

The second thing is there is an incredible amount of variety here, and there are some odd items that you may find here and nowhere else. Selection is actually excellent. However, there is a reason why there is a good bit of variety.

This is the most expensive store in the DC/MD/VA area I have ever been in. Everything in here is WAY overpriced, and that reflects often in the beer which has bottles that have in many cases been sitting way too long. Things here are also ridiculously overpriced, even worse than Olney Fine Wine and Beer (such as a 6er of GI Summertime for 13 dollars). However, there is a possibility you may find some hard to find items (at the time I write this, there were many bottles of Nightstalker still here, but they were way overpriced at $22 dollars!!!). I bought mine for $10 months ago.

If it's a beer that will keep no problem, but ecspecially for what they are charging?? I'd say it's not worth it. It's not just the beer, even the liquor prices here are outrageous. You can find the items they sell here in other places in DC without any trouble. Service here is non existent also. I remember at one point I asking for a product and they had no idea what I was talking about.

Besides that, there is outrageously overpriced and expired Russian River here on top of it.

I wouldn't buy anything here unless it was a real obscure hard to find and worth it to me, and it wasn't expired. Looking for something you really want?... you just might find it here, but you'll pay through the nose to get it. My advice? shop somewhere else.

This has been my go-to spot while in DC after The Wine Specialist was somewhat of a disappointment and Chevy Chase is too much of a haul.

Quality is good however there is a lot of beer near the front windows. Most beer is near the front of store and there is more in the coolers in the back. Be sure to sneak around and check out the side coolers as I somehow missed those the first few times I was there.

Service is good. I had a different experience than the gentleman below me as every time I've been in there I've been greeted and asked if I needed help finding anything. I've yet to ask for any advice so I can't speak to how well they know their stuff.

Selection is very good. Large numbers of bombers up front with a few six-packs and more six-packs, bombers, and a few singles in the back. As I mentioned before this is the best selection I've seen on the southwest side of town.

Value is not the best, it seemed about $3 too expensive to me however I have to adjust that for the slightly higher prices in the District in general.

Overall it's a bit on the pricey side but the selection makes it worth it.

Nice selection of beers but that's probably due to the fact that they charge 20% or more compared to other places so you will find hard to find bottles but who knows how long they've been sitting on the shelf for. They're all about making the sale so you can't just browse around without getting hounded. If you are in a desparate need to find something like I was, then give them a try. Otherwise, I think they are just too overpriced.

OK, so the selection is insane. But, at anywhere from 300%-600% markup! Its worth a trip just to see the $130 dark lord or $60 shelf saison from Hill Farmstead. $30 bottle of Bomb! - sure, why not?!

Worth a trip just to look at the price tags and walk out.

This shop has things you'd be unlikely to find on the shelf anywhere else but it comes at a steep cost.

$130 bottles of Black Tuesday, Dark Lord or Vanilla Rye. $30 bottles of warm Pliney.

I stumbled upon this store while walking through Dupont Circle. I was hoping to find a 6pk of OTWOA, but they had sold out. They still had BCBS and also had it on tap for growler fills (2012). The prices are outrageous, but the staff is very friendly and willing to help. I'd only hit this place for beer if I was in a pinch. Still enjoyed visiting and saw Russian River Supplication there crazily enough.

Went here while in DC on a business trip. Bottle selection was pretty good, they had some Russian River bottles and even a couple bottle of Westvleteren Blonde, but I laughed out loud once I saw their prices. They were selling 12 oz. bottles of BCBS for $20 and dogfish head Worldwide Stout for $20 also! Single bottles of Devil Dancer were as much as the 4 packs back homes. They had a few of the Goose Island "sister" bombers and they wanted $40 buck apiece. Virtually every bomber in the store was at least $8 to $20 more than I have spent elsewhere. Although pretty rare, I still think $50 for one bottle of Westvleteren Blonde is crazy. This is easily the highest price beer store that I have been to in the country. Don't waste your time!

I tried to give an honest review in a way. I really don't care for the vibe here given that they are clearly selling at a slightly higher than avg pricepoint for beer that normally makes it through DC and a through the roof stuff that they somehow bring in through somewhat salacious means. We all know that FFF, Westy, Russian River, etc are not distributed to DC but they have them and more! If you are willing to pay the price. If you have no desire to pay for flight, hotel and potential hassle of Darklord Day then the 100$ bottle is actually a good deal all things considered. That said, it isn't kept in the fridges, exposed to outdoor light and the store is bit warm, even in winter. So you may not get the full experience.

I should add that I cannot condone these kinds of sales outside of normal distribution rules. I believe that part of the whole beer experience is actually participating in the madness of releases like Darklord Day, even if I don't really care to participate in hyped releases anymore.

All I can say... is I am thankful to have experienced what true beer stores are.

I know good beer stores and this one is just average. I wish I could give much more accolades ... but when I was in DC I had much more a run in with good beer with better service elsewhere. I would like to see this store step up their beer game and I would stop by again if I were in the area. The one plus for me was that I could walk to this place. The place is nothing horrible... just not great.

If I could suggest one thing... be more personable behind the counter. I didn't even care to learn your name and I was in the store 4 times while I was in DC. Sad.
