An exceptional, exceptional brew, consumed on tap on 05.01.05 at Sly Fox Phoenixville...

A radiant golden brew presented before me with a light and pillowy head. Effervescent, to be sure... Aromas of freshly cut grains whafted through my sinuses, not to mention some lovely maltiness. A middle of the road brew in terms of the body, this brew was nowhere near as bitter as I expected... In fact it was sumptuous, crisp and clean. So very refreshing. The finish really brought out the balance between the maltiness and hops... Beautiful, at that...

Deep gold color, very slight chill haze. Fluffy white head, fades fairly fast, leaving a slight film on top.

Aromas of honey and sugar, spice and soft toasted malts, perhaps even a touch of vanilla. Taste is smooth, firm, mouth filling rich with pils malt, tons of it. Very full flavors of honey and clean German malts start things out, noticeably sweet but not over the top. Mid pallette opens up a bit with some really nice bitter notes, herbal and quick. Cleaning the malt from the tongue slightly. Towards the end returns a slightly syrupy sugar sweetness that clings to the back of your throat. Finishes clean with lots of lingering pils malt flavors.

Carbonation was medium and mouthfeel was intensely slick and very very full.

Overall - A bock that is just so drinkable it is almost ridiculous. Have had several pints at both Fox locations, and have been through 2 growlers as well. I just keep going back, it's that good.

It pours a very bright ingot gold, and is about as clear as it could possibly be. A finger of fluffy, puffy sheer white head settles out swiftly. Very fine lacing scrolls along the inside of the glass.

The aroma is a very light malt, sweet like sugar and honey, slightly grassy, and with bright, spicy noble hops. A distant glimpse of vanilla swings around the outside.

Upon tasting, the malt is mellow sugar sweet and the toast brings about a touch of caramel. The edgy hops are mildly floral and peppery, with a glow that slides into a very clean and crisp bitterness. The pale malt lays out a soft honey sweetness toward the close, with the finishing crisping further into a lingering dry, comfortable bitterness. It's refreshing, tasty, and enjoyable.

Light bodied, the malt nonetheless has a rounded, slick presence that compliments the hoppy tingle.

There's nothing wrong with the parts, as they're across-the-board good and high quality, but the whole is even greater, and delivers a great drinking, bright natured beer. There's no time I can think of that I would not enjoy having the in front of me. In fact, I'll do what I can to get it back there soon.

Had this wonderful beer for the first time at the Sly Fox showcase at Union Jack's on the Manatawny on 23 May. Can't say that the aroma was all that great but the taste is superb. Great malts well balanced with the hops and a delicious lingering finish. I'm not sure what the seasonal availability is on the Helles Bock but this is one that should be made all year round. Certainly the standout of the night of some truely fine beers.

Poured a light hazy copper hue with a half finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured a citrusy hop and a husky malt.

The taste consisted of a grainy malt, a fuity hop and some light esthers.

The mouthfeel was toward the lighter side of the style.

Overall a very tasty and easy drinking bock.

Appears a shimmering gold color with a small white head that lasts shortly. A few bits of lacing can be seen.
Smell is of blended flowers, honey, malt with a touch of pilsner malts in there.
Taste is of caramel and malt with a light flowery hop bite that seems pleasant.
Mouthfeel is slowly warming and moves to the back of the tongue.
Nicely done.

Finger Licking Good.

Clear, deep gold with a thin cap of white foam. Minimal lacing and decent retention. It had a pleasant maltiness with some floral noble hops. Mild (yet solid) bitterness with plenty of pils malt sweetness up front. Slightly toasted with floral hops throughout. Off-dry with a bit of alcohol warmth, medium body and carbonation. This reminded me a bit of some stronger euro-lagers, only with a rich malty backbone rather than a thin sweetness. Maybe even like a stronger, maltier helles lager. Either way -- tasty!

A: Bright Golden with a two finger head and pleanty of lace.

S: Fresh grains and sweet malt aromas.

T: Sweet malts, grains, and a hint of alcohol. All of the flavors meld well together.

M: Medium bodied with a crisp, dry finish.

D: A bit sweet but a good take on the style. It is something I don't mind having a few of.

Got a growler of this when I visited the place a couple of months ago.

A: Pours a golden body with a small, white head with ok retention and nice lacing.

S: A very sweet, malty smell with some sweet, fruity notes.

T: A sweet, malt taste with some sweet, fruit undertones. A slightly bitter, earthy aftertaste that actually did a good job of balancing out the beer overall.

M: A pretty full-bodied and silky beer that was nice.

D: A good mouthfeel and taste combination that did a good job of complimenting each other. A nice drinking beer that was also slightly refreshing.

A stange served during the 2008 Bock Fest and Goat Races.

A: The bock is a golden straw color, quite clear, with an active carbonation that overflowed the glass. The 1.5 finger head nicely laced both in and outside of the glass.

S: The nose is light and malty, grainy with a vegetal and honey undertone.

T: Like the nose, this beer is light and refreshing even though it is rather meaty. The malts are cereally, bready with a sweet aftertaste. Apple and honey flavors underpin the malts and betray a stronger, boozier body. Great finish with a touch of hops.

M: Deliciously chewy, this lagerbier is a mouthful. Lots of malts are concentrated and melded into a thick, sweet concoction.

D: The boozier body is evident, putting some limits to the drinkability. A nice beer for a warm spring afternoon.

Poured a clear deep gold with a finger and a half high white head. Minimal lacing but good head retention.

Malty and floral with some honey on the nose

Sweet and malty, a nice hop bite, the bitterness is a nice balance to the sweet malts. Medium bodied, medium carbonation.

A solid and well crafted beer.
