L - Poured a a clear amber with a two-finger, white foamy head that dissipated quickly to a broken thin film. Light lacing is present.

S - Very faint cracker and malt.

T - Malty with cracker, grain, light grass and hops. Somewhat sweet. Pleasantly surprised.

F - Moderate body and carbonation. Feels heavy in the stomach for the style.

O - Good but not approaching some of the better German brews.

A good session beer - low ABV and quite refreshing. It pours a clear pale amber color, with a minimal head. The aroma is that of fresh apple cider. The taste is dry and malty with a touch of bitterness.

Sly Fox Brewing Co. "Helles Golden Lager"
12 fl. oz. can coded "BEST BY:08/14/22 #134568 07:47" and sampled on 05/25/22
$21.19/12-pk @ Javies Beverage, Philadelphia, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: I've had this beer many times before and I can pretty much sum it up before I even begin. It's well balanced and could hold its own against some of the best from Germany. In fact it's better than quite a few of them. It's a clear golden in color beneath a short head of bright white foam. Unfortunately the head retention and lacing aren't that great; that's it's main drawback. The aroma is malty, grainy and sweetish, and delicately herbal and floral. It could use a little more aroma but it's technically completely fine as it is. The flavor delivers more hops with some grassiness added in and it's really nicely balanced. A firm bitterness runs through it, and it finishes mainly dry with some residual sweetish malt, a light earthiness, and mild floral, grassy, and herbal hops lingering shortly. In the mouth it's medium bodied leaning towards medium-light, and gently crisp. I could drink this all day long.

Poured from a 12 oz. can (best by: 3-18-22) into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass. Clear yellow with little to no head to speak of, and that dissipated rather quickly to just a small ring. Aroma was slightly bready, with hints of lemon grass. Taste followed the aroma with a high amount of carbonation and a slight bitterness on the finish.

Overall, a clean, crisp beer but nothing really outstanding to speak of. Still, I would drink this again but wouldn't go out of my way to seek it out. Maybe being so close to the "Best By" date had something to do with it?

This really is your typical, overpriced, amateurish american interpretation of a good beer style. Are these brewers adding corn to make their swill beers lose their head far more rapidly than a Miller lite? Never any lacing to the majority of these... laughable the ratings sly fox has acquired. There's no chance this beer is the same one that I've read reviews gabout a decade ago on this very site. This, most unfortunately for me, just sucks. Pass

12 oz can poured into a tulip pint glass. Unfortunately a couple of months past the best by date, which might account for the beer seeming sweeter than I'd have preferred if the hops have faded a bit. That said, it was a tasty helles lager with a biscuit/honey malt flavor a some floral/grassy hops. Easy to drink and a nice summer beer.

Pours a clear gold, with not much aroma. A pleasant malty taste with a touch of sweetness and a little hop bitterness on the finish. Easy to drink, crispy and clean.

A - Crisp, clear light gold color with a dense, bright white layer of foam on top and moderate, steady carbonation.

S - Light honey malt with some delicate lemon citrus on the nose.

T - Grainy honey malt base from start to finish with light earthy citrus over the top. Finishes with mild bitterness on the back side with some citrus and lemon.

M - Thick body.

O - Not quite there for the style but glad to have tried this

12 ounce can poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

L---Crystal clear, muted golden color. Minimal white head that faded immediately to a ring. Meh lacing.

S---Very light aroma. Light bread & hops.

T---Much stronger than the nose, thankfully, but the same notes, bread & hops.

F---Clean & crisp. Slightly below medium mouthfeel. Very good carbonation.

O---A spotty effort. Tasty enough, but I won't get it again.

Doesn’t look like much. Soapy head, dissipating quickly. A bit over carbonated and looks nothing less than a standard Budweiser. Scents of saaz, corn, vanilla wafer, and light syrup. A bit of honey on the nose. Those are the negatives but the beer tastes fantastic. Slightly sweet malt backdrop with a nice dry finish. Easy drinking especially on a hot day like today. My state makes the best American made German clones of them all! Reasonably priced and highly quaffable.

Can. Clear golden color.

A little too malty/biscuity for my liking of the style. I like a German helles to be a bit more hoppy and crisp. This is more malts, less hops. Still a bit earthy and grassy. Easy drinking.

From a 12oz can (best by 3/21/20) into a pint glass. Pours a translucent light golden yellow with two fingers of fluffy white head. Not much retention, light lacing. Smells of some grains and bread, quite honestly, like it's supposed to. Taste follows the nose, bready with some corn grains. Mouthfeel is pretty crisp and light. Not much lingering in the aftertaste. Overall, a good stab at the style. Given the price point, it's worth a revisit.

(12 oz can, best by 10/28/19; purchased single off shelf... poured into 14 oz mug)

L: crystal-clear, pale gold liquid; foam takes a dive immediately... not one bubble of foam remains, hmm...

S: powdered donut malt/yeast aromas, doughy as it goes... the overall scent is spot-on, just fraying at the edges

T: first sip, and it's also pretty much spot-on; subtle snap off in the finish, golden bread-crusty aftertaste; faint vinous highlight streaking across the malt... rather nice, but shows the slightest hint of being domestic

F: bit of a fatty bounce in the middle, fairly clean wash out; carbonation is all but absent, and the glass is beer-clean

O: I do believe I've had this a time or two where the head held and the presentation was more vibrant and dynamic.... gonna chalk this up to an old (mishandled) can?... the taste didn't show much damage, but the lack of suds prevented the propulsion of excellence... I'll get it on tap at the brewery or elsewhere when I see it (hopefully sooner than later); nothing's changed, they still make good German beer (1462)

S: front end fruity with light touch of malt and hops at backend
T: the taste led more with malt then fruity in middle with light hop touch at the finish
F: refreshing light with a touch of frothiness
O: this beer came across different in many respects but each aspect of it was excellent

A: The beer is crystal clear straw yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that quickly died down and left a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of bready and biscuity malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is mostly dominated by malty flavors of bread and biscuits. No hop flavors are detectable, but there is enough underlying hops to mask away just about any traces of sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite malty but is still easy to drink and doesn't feel that heavy on the palate.

Pours a clear pale golden straw color and visible carbonation. A moderate to large white head nevertheless dissipates rather quickly.
My only issue with the aroma is that it opens a bit metallic. However, once this fades, the aroma reveals notes of grass, earthy and spicy noble hops and bready malt.
The taste does a nice job of showcasing bready and biscuity malts, along with a touch of caramel malt, both adding sweetness. Good hops balance as the grassy and earthy noble hops add a nice spice as well a very mild bitterness.
Medium to light bodied, crisp, and moderately carbonated. The finish is clean and semi dry.
Despite some slight flaws in the aroma and head retention , this is quite the tasty and refreshing Helles Lager. I would definitely have again.

This is good stuff right here. Not much to the look or smell but this is classic Helles with just the right amount of malts and fizz. A must try.
