Crystal clear gold with a fine, white head. Great retention and lacing. Clean malt aroma with plenty of floral hops - maybe just a bit of citrus as well. Light to moderate bitterness with a bit of malt. Slightly grainy character, almost like barley straight from the bag on brewing day. Sweet finish. Light body with crisp carbonation. Off-dry. This is a highly drinkable, top notch helles, especially for a brewpub. The brewer really knows his stuff.

The look is textbook golden lager, while the aroma brings plenty of sweet bread, sugar cookie, and even cotton candy. Of course, there's a gentle kiss of noble hops also floating around to keep things in check. The flavor opens up with some grassy noble hops and a malt sweetness. This malt sweetness grows near the middle and end, leading to a bigger problem: it's too sweet and too mashy. And too slimy on the palate, as well. The medium body is ruined by the wet texture - this is not a bone-dry pilsner nor meant to be, but it loafs on the palate too heavily for me. Carbonation isn't overdone. Still, it's not a refreshing brew, and that's a problem given the style. All in all, I expected far more from this one. It's not as drinkable as it should be, and it really doesn't satisfy like other helles lagers. It's not awful, I just wouldn't buy it again.

2.89/5: It isn't making me go Helles No, but it certainly isn't very enthralling

8/12...pours very light gold, active bubbles, low foam. Bright citrus floral nose. Chalky helles nose. Clean taste, bitter outline, full of flavor. Clean fast finish. Light and flavorful.

Transparent golden yellow with a thick creamy white head. The nose is lightly toasted grain with a touch of dough malt balanced by a fairly assertive citric hop in the back with a grassy, earthy grain lingering in the back. The flavor has a more assertive grain flavor, light notes of dough with a strong citric bitterness. There is a lightly floral and grassy hop note accompanied by some tangy rye like grain in the finish. Really light, fluffy, and creamy feel with a medium syrupy body and crisp assertive carbonation. The beer is balanced and smooth, light and crisp. Nice stuff, stronger on the grain side than I love but still very enjoyable.

Poured from 12 oz can into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. Best by 04/22/14 on bottom of can. Purchased at Kroger (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Beautiful clear straw-gold with ample 1-finger white big-bubbled head with decente retention and a nice cap of lacing.

S: Plenty of Munich and pilsner malt graininess with a good balance of grassy, noble hoppiness.

T: Clean with only a slight minerally bit in the aftertaste. Otherwise is straight grainy maltiness with a light hand of noble hopping. Really a fine tasting helles lager for sure. If they could punch out the light sulfur-aspirin-mineral character in the finish, this would be a definite summer go to brew. Still, this is an excellent, clean lager with no other faults.

M: Very crisp and easy to drink with a fairly light-handed carbonation to enhance the light-medium body and mouthfeel.

O: Sly Fox Golden Lager is a stellar lager with just the right mix of pilsner and Munich graininess with noble hopping -- they have made an outstanding brew here.

Beer review notes from 5/20/12, on tap at the Lark in East Northport, NY: pours hazy yellow gold color with a 2 finger white head that faded quickly and left decent spotty lacing.

Smells of sweet malt, caramel, grains, corn husk, vegetables, light herbs and light citrus hops; pretty earthy nose, almost like a salad.

Tastes like it smells, sweet malt, caramel, grains, corn husk, vegetables, light herbs, funky yeast, cardboard, light citrus hops and a hint of lemon zest; on par for the style, but just kind of blah as it seems like an American attempt at a German beer and not an American interpretation of a German beer. It misses the mark somewhere for me.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp and lemony, with high fizzy carbonation, a light body and a finish that's tart yet almost clean. An easy drinking beer that was alright, but not one I got excited about.

360 can poured into...nothing. This one is getting drank straight from the can as intended.

Appearance
I'm sure it's golden and I'm sure it's carbonated, but I may never know for sure. No head from no pour.

Nose
Pilsner malt and caramel with touches of lemongrass and bubblegum. Very subtle, again, from no pour.

Taste
Very light on the palate. Sweetened Pilsner graininess with dabs of caramel. Light touches of lemongrass and bubblegum. Perhaps a little hay.

Mouthfeel
Light bodied, crisp and dry.

Overall
Nifty can. Light, sessionable and refreshing.

Pours a light straw color with just under a finger of head. The nose is somewhat astringent. The flavor is grainy with a crisp, dry finish. The body is slightly hearty for the style.
