Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a mahogany colored brew with a ruby red shine. Upon being served there is a one finger off white head that fades moderately quickly to leave only a light level of lacing on the sides of the glass
Smell – The aroma is heavies of dark fruit aromas of cherry and raisin. Other sweeter aromas of caramel and brown sugar are also present. Mixed with aromas is a nice boozy and lightly spiced aroma that when mixed with the sweeter fruit aromas produces a pleasant warming smell overall.
Taste – The taste of the brew follows the nose very well. It starts with lots of dark fruit flavors as well as a bready and malty taste. Some flavors of caramel are also present upfront, producing a sweet and bready taste. As the flavors advance the caramel turns more toward a toffee like flavor as some buttery and more biscuit flavors come to the tongue. Toward the end the toffee sweet dwindles some, but the dark fruit grows even stronger in flavor keeping the sweetness level rather high. With the increase in dark fruit there are some warming boozy flavors as well as a spice flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg. Overall a warmingly sweet flavor is left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel –The body of the brew is on the medium side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average to maybe slightly below average. The slightly lower carbonation is good for the heavier and boozy flavors of the brew with the medium body nicely compromises accentuating the sweet fruity flavors of the brew with a nice lighter and refreshing body, but yet also allowing the boozy warming flavors a chance to soak into the tongue.
Overall – A quite tasty and sweet wee heavy. Slightly warming and a good sipper that is very enjoyable to drink

Had on cask. Looks rust colored with decent head that does not last long but leaves a good amount of lacing. Smells of toasted bread, and maybe a hint of dried fruit. Marginal bit of peat in there somewhere, I think? Mouthfeel is a touch thin but it is crisp and refreshing. Not great but definitely not bad at all.

Not a bad brown ale, but it is not a Scottish. There was no trace of pete or smoke. I would have rated it higher if it did not portray itself as a Scottish Ale.

Had this as Watkins Drinkery in South Philadelphia TODAY via engine. Is this retired? Hm. From engine into a standard pint.
Appearance: A beauty with a great, long lasting off-white head from engine. Actual color is sort of and cola-esque. And not Coca-Cola, like RC Cola. Odd. Perhaps a shade or two light for a Scotch, but no real complaints. 4/5
Smell: Raisins more than anything else. Not just any dried fruit. Raisins. Not a bad scent though. 3.5/5
Taste: A lot of nice dry fruit flavor, solid sweet malts and... A bit of cola? I like it a lot though. Plays surprisingly well off of an engine pour. 4/5
Mouth: I'm not a big engine guy, but this is great on engine. Smooth, medium heavy, perfect light carbonation. On point. 4.5/5
This was much better than I expected given I am often disappointed by Sly Fox, though there are few Scotch Ales I really dislike. 4/5

Cola color. Maybe a half-shade lighter. No head. What the hell! 2.5
Dark rum, dark fruits, burnt sugar, roast malts, and a light wine aroma. Pretty decently complex. 4
A little more rugged. Still offering delicious dark rum, molasses, and trail mix fruit notes. Some black cherry and overdone toffee brittle. Lots of gooey maltiness with a touch of herbal hops and phenolic presence. Somewhat medicinal. Decently charming. 3.75
Carbonation picks up a bit (none on the surface; all of it trapped beneath). Body feels medium to thick. Very light tackiness. 3.5
A pretty solid Scotch ale that I can get down with. 3.75
