On tap at the 2007 Sly Fox IPA Project Day...
Appears a transparent orange toned amber with a small white head that slowly fades out into a mild cap. Small streaks of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of pine and grapefruit with notes of floral and a hint of sharp cheddar cheese.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with the obvious bitterness on top of a spiced berry, caramel, and light biscuit flavor.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, balanced, with a lingering bitter finish.

It pours a lightly hazy orange, shot through with burnt amber. A finger of light beige head dips soon to vestigial surface froth. Shots of lacing pepper the inside of the glass.

The aroma bobs and weaves, almost daring any real pick-up, but gives out some small measure of malt semi-sweetness. There is a vague floral hope note in residence, but it's a stretch to call it a veritable aroma.

Upon tasting, the malt takes first, entering with a mildly sweet fruitiness of spring berries. In a flash, though, the hops thrust a quick stab of floral pine before a palate-numbing and encompassing bitterness deadens pretty much all else, for a moment at least. As that eye-opener ebbs, the malt blips through with a brief note of biscuit at the rear. The finish is an only slightly lesser recurrence of bud-swamping bitterness. The malt just doesn't stand up to the almost acrid, but unfortunately low-flavor, hop profile.

Between light and medium bodied, the hops here aid instead of detract, adding a glow to a light coat of malt sweetness.

The project is a noble one, but I think Sly Fox faced a challenge with the Magnum hops that no amount of brew mastery could really tackle. It has its applications, but it comes off as too one-dimensional to carry an IPA on its own. I'd never say no to trying something new from these guys, but this shows that not every attempt will be a winner, at least in my humble eyes.

Slightly hazed, coppery colour with a dark cream, moussy head. Some lacing and decent retention. Aromas of fresh hops, grapefruit pith, pine resin and a light earthiness. Surprisingly, this combination was on the mild side. The flavour kicks off with mild caramel malt sweetness followed closely by orange, citrusy hops. Bitterness becomes prominent in the middle and grows into a grapefruit finish. Medium/light bodied with carbonation on the low side. Not bad at all. Magnums can be fairly aggressive and they've done a great job balancing them out here.

On tap at the Hop Devil Grill on St Marks.
This beer is a good place to get your fix of hops. This comes off pretty aggressively; was served on the colder side so the aroma might have been muted... the aroma was still probably on the weak side... other than that this beer is pretty in your face.
The flavors here are deep and hoppy. A bit toasted and smokey.... the hop oils stick to the palate for several minutes after one is done with a pint. Piney, resinous and sticky. I dont know what the alcohol content of this is; it doesnt appear so much in the flavor but it seems to have a kick to it.
This is my first experience with this brewery and it has my attention.

Had this one on tap at the Grey Lodge in Philadelphia, PA.

A- Deep Copper color. Small white head.

S- Hoppy, grapefruit and piney.

T- Very hoppy, grapefuit and pine. Didn't detect much malt if any.

M- Has a bit of slick, oily feel. Not much carbonation.

D- Easy to drink but, left a bitter lingering after taste.

(This was a few weeks back at the Brazen Head's cask ale festival.)

Slightly hazed amber color. A mild sweetness fades into a dry, green, grassy, weedy hoppiness. Sweetness carries through despite drying hops, very herbal. Smooth on the palate... this is DIPA level bitterness in a compact, palatable beer.

From a cask fest at Brazen Head:

Poured out slightly hazy, copper, with a creamy off white head. The nose was all about hops, big, bitter, grapefruity hops. Hard to find anything past it. The taste surprised me, more malty at first, with some spice, and then a trip into hop land. It ends with all sorts of grapefuirt, but the malt is there to protect your tongue. Lightly carbonated, bitter finish but mostly clean.
