On tap at the 2007 Sly Fox IPA Project Day...
Appears a transparent orange toned amber with a small white head that slowly fades out into a mild cap. Scattered streaks of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of cracked grain, earthy notes, mild orange peel, and a touch of caramel with mild buttercream found in the background.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with standout citrus and caramel but there is a hint of diacytel to me both in the aromas and flavors.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, chewy, bitter with mild grapefruit lingering along the palate.

A: Clear, dark golden orange with a bout a finger of head and plenty of lacing.

S: Black pepper and pine.

T: Strong pine and black pepper.

M: Sticky with a clinging bitterness that last well past the finish.

D: This a good varietal IPA that highlights the hop's characteristics but more than a couple of these would be alot on the tongue.

It pours a mostly clear orange with gold intents. A finger of light beige head dwindles to a surface pillow of froth. Caterpillars of lacing frill the inside of the glass.

The aroma challenges with traces of toasted malt, perhaps caramel lurking, perhaps not. The hops are traced by citrus and a mild general spiciness. There is a modicum of alcohol as well.

Upon sipping, the malt is first in line, with caramel and a rounded sweetness that drops away soon to a bitterness driven by the hops. Those same hops deliver a glimpse of pine and dry citrus which I'd like to say is grapefruit but of which I could not be sure. A trace of baked biscuit and residual grain sweetness is swept away byt a continuation of the hop bitterness, this time more crisp and lingering moderately. It leaves me wanting more flavor than it delivers.

Medium bodied, it has a fair stickiness buttressed by both the malt and the resiny hops.

It appeals to the eye, and it feels good on the palate, but in between those plusses came not enough additional positives. The aroma and flavor, the true backbone of any beer, simply doesn't bring enough to the table to make this memorable or notably enjoyable. The ABV is far from unmanageable, but it's enough to make another something far from guaranteed. I like trying these Sly Fox project beers. I just don't always like the beers themselves.
