Sly Fox- Boadicea

On tap at Isaac Newton's- Newtown, PA

A- Clear golden caramel brown with a thin light lacing head.
S- Light sweet citrus hops, slight mossy earthiness.
T- Clean crisp grapefruit and pine hops with a nice dose of buttery malt.
M- Sweet hoppiness. Oily pine and citrus with a crisp malty body. Slight touch of alc.

Overall- Good, sessionable without a doubt cause I had a few back to back. Definitely worth it!

On tap @ the Ginger Man 02-07-09

A- Nice bright orange/amber color, decent carbonation, with a 3 finger head, that leaves a swiss cheese like lacing

S- Seemed a little unbalanced in the smell department, bready notes, with piney hops, tried to get a better smell of it but it wasn't really coming through

T- Malty, with some bitterness, again not really balanced, a little rough around the edges for a APA. could def be smoothed out.

M- A little thicker than your average APA

D- Overall a so-so APA from Sly Fox, have had a lot better offerings from them, i think this one is a miss

Big thanks as always to Drjay as always with the Sly Fox hookup! No more IPA's this year, but instead we have a wonderful selection of Pale Ales starting. This one, Bodacious would be up first. Served cold and poured into ap int glass, this one was consumed on 01/19/2009.

The pour was pretty damn good I have to say. Rich orange amber in color with a good amount of clarity to it. Nice carbonation rising up from the bottom of the glass came to a head of about three inches that settled down nicely into a half inch high crown of white that capped off very nicely.

Wonderfully balanced aroma and flavor here. Rich bready malts, hints of a resin filled hop note that cut through the malt liek a knife. Some light notes of fruit veen coming through in the final moments of this one. Solid profile here without really a weak note to be mentioned at all. Smooth sailing, though a bit thin in the profile, it was a might sessionable little ale that i would have no issue at all with going after yet again.

Overall one of the better little pale ales I have had recently. This growler went down without a fight this evening so it could not have been too terribly strong. But solid all around.

On draft at Croxley Ales, New Hyde Park, New York.

Poured a medium copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and very good lacing.

The smell featured an earthy and leafy hop and a light sweetness.

The taste consisted of a spicy herbal hop and a soft doughy malt.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style with a lingering bitterness.

Overall a tasty and relatively light bodied ale.

Appearance: amber colored with a nice 2" fluffy head that lasts quite a while. Lovely lace paints the glass during the session.

Smell: caramel, some breadiness, and hop bitterness is pleasant and easily detectable.

Taste: nice bready malt profile with caramel, red apples, milder citrus tones, and a nicely balancing bitterness. Definite British feel to this one. There is some dryness near the finish.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Aftertaste is short and dry. Mildly crisp at the start, smoother towards the finish.

Drinkability: easy to drink session ale here. Well balanced beer that will bring a smile to your face. Looking forward to others in this series during the year.

Crystal clear, amber orange colour with a white cap. Great head retention, sheets of lace with rings at each sip. The aroma was nice and hoppy, fruity citrus and earthy. Solid bitterness, mild malt sweetness, biscuit, juicy, fruity, citrus hops with a bit of spice in the finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation, off-dry. A really good pale ale. I hope the rest of the new Hop Project beers are this good.

2009 Hop Project Brew

A: Crystal clear amber body. Moderate eggshell white head. Receded to a thin froth. Dense, sheet-like covering on the glass.

S: Light caramel, bread, pine, and floral notes.

T: Pine and floral hop bitterness up front. Slightly earthy and raw. The light caramel base is unobtrusive but noticeable.

M: Incredibly smooth. Nice light-medium body. Flavors are nice and clear through the finish.

D: Tasty and refreshing. My #4 out of the 11 single-hop hop project beers.

Pours clear amber with a small head that falls to good lacing. Aroma like a crisp pilsner. Flavor is pilsnerish, with strong pale malt and a hint of piny hops. The mouthfeel is thin and delicious. Very good. The beer takes on a smokey, amberi, biscuity character as it warms.

Growler from Bellport Beer & Soda. Pours a clear light orange with a thick, foamy white head. Aroma of crisp pale malts, a touch of floral hops, and bready malt. Flavor is predominantly bready malt with light bitter hops and some light sweet fruits. A chill, easy drinking EPA. The hops do not stand out though, and this beer is mostly malt-dominated. Nothing too special but it's a nice session beer!
