look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

A - Poured with a generous two fingers worth of purely white, very frothy white foam; hazy yellow-orange hue; decent head retention

S - Citric, yeasty, faint hint of clove; tart. All good and within the style

T - A bit citric and tart; faint hint of bananas and clove; touch yeasty and sour dough at the end

M - Medium to lighter, very sparkly carbonation

D - Decent enough, but not as quenching as the top examples in the style. Not bad, but just not good either in terms of the flavors.

Overall, not a bad stab at the style at all. I would easily pick up a sixer of this for the next party/BBQ/outdoor event that I attend. Worth a look.

I'm not much for hefe's but I really had a craving for a wheat beer a few weeks back so I picked up a 6er of this. It fit the bill pretty nicely.

Pours a cloudy, musty sort of golden color with a finger and a half of off-white head. Head is pretty creamy and retains well, leaving some good stick too.

Smell is a bit sweet with a good dose of clove and an interesting mix of fruity aromas. There is banana for sure, but also a tropical fruit aroma, pineapple perhaps. Also has a slightly metallic aroma, but otherwise it's clean and relatively pleasant.

Taste is a bit sweeter than the smell and a little more rough around the edges. It's a bit grainy and even a bit gritty, and definitely has an astringency to it that I'm not wild about. Fruit was more prominent in the nose; again there is some banana here and even a splash of pineapple, but I wish those flavors stood out above the grain more. Bit of a metallic flavor like there was in the nose, too. Clove was also stronger in the nose.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and relatively creamy but also on the cloying side. It's also a little rough given the astringent graininess, which also lends a dryness to it. The sticky sweetness gets to be a bit much for me.

This isn't too bad, but given that I'm not wild about hefe's to begin with I likely won't come back to this with any regularity. I hate to say it but it does smell and taste as though it came from a can. I enjoyed the 6er but it's on to the next.

Poured this brew into a Ommegang Chalice.

Pours a honey orange, with a white head that fades quickly. Some lacing.

Smells of bananas, yeast some malts. Some fruity smells as well.

Tastes of bananas, yeast, some maltly flavors as well. The brew is very drinkable. A bit of a cracker, bready taste as well.

This brew is very drinkable, tasty and creamy. A very solid Hefe. Not the best I have had - but very solid.

Poured from the can into a Weizen glass.

A: Dark, cloudy, copper orange, with a thick fluffy white head that left some decent lacing.

S: Ripe bananas, clove and malty wheat.

T: Clove, banana and some mild hop bitterness. Overall, a very nice take on the style. I was hoping for just a little bit more spicyness on my tongue though...

M: Somewhere in the middle of medium and lighter, nicely carbonated...

D: Very drinkable, I am very happy that I have a case of this.

Can into Weizen Glass.

A: Nice hazy looking straw color with a half finger of white head. Nice looking lacing as well.

S: Nice wheat right up front with a touch of mustiness. The clove is there but faint and there is a little bit of bubblegum. The yeast is not quite where I want it but it does smell really nice.

T: Nice classic heff taste. Really nothing to make it stand out. Really just a solid beer. The yeast does not give you as much as it did in the nose.

M: It has that wheat feel if that makes sense. Not quite thick but not light either. Low carbonation.

D: I drank a few of these while tubing and really enjoyed them. Just a great summer beer for the lake or river or whatever. Sly Fox does not disappoint.

Poured into an American pint glass from the can. Pours a hazy gold with hints of orange. Slightly murky with mild carbonation. Smells great with hints of german hops, german yeast, and wheat. The taste is decent, although I find it similar to the Pikeland Pils of theirs: very distinct potency of hops. Sharpe, rip, alpha-acid-y hops. Almost makes this beer a little too clean tasting. The hops are such a dominating punch, that the soft mellow character that I like in German Hefes is dried up. This also takes away from the mouthfeel and drinkability. Maybe it would be better if I waited 3 months to find the window where the hops begin to subside, but it doesn't taste like cardboard yet... might be tough.

On tap during the goat races the other day at the Phoenixville pub.

The beer pours the prototypical hazy orange tan color with fair head retention and lacing. On the nose I get a pleasant aroma of clove, nutmeg and banana, though it's not over done and is a bit light. There is also someunderlying wheatiness, but again, it's fairly light. The flavors on the palate replicate the nose, though the beer seems to have a very slight sourness on the finish. This is a very easy to drink hefe, and the beer is fairly light on the spice, but has enough flavor to keep things interesting. Alcohol seems pretty restrained and is not at all intrusive or obtrusive.

While nothing mind blowing, this was a nice enough beer I thought. Not bad at all.

A - poured out of a can into a weisse glass, creamy foamy head, cloudy golden-brown-orange.

S - banana, clove spiciness, coriander with a sweet hint of fruity butter.

T - sweet and mild apple with a distant numbing hop.

M - creamy with a good level of carbonation, medium bodied - the mouthfeel is more like an Irish stout that a weisse, but it works for me

D - Typical weisse drinkability

Wow, what a nice offering for an American made Hefe. Penn still beats it, but not by much, in my opinion. Pours a HUGE head with tracing down the glass. Smells of banana, clovey scents and tastes the same. A bit watery on the body. Falls just a bit short in taste compared to the rest of the beer. Needs a little more bold character. It is still, a great experience. I wish I had more than one.

Poured a cloudy orange copper color with a half finger width sized frothy white head. There's lots of carbonation sticking to the sized of my glass. Aroma is fruity, yeasty and has a hint of bubble gum and belgian spices. Taste is fruity and tangy with a nice cloviness to it. For a weisse though this is a lot drier than i would have expected. Feel is moderate and slippery smooth with sharp tingliness from the carbonation. Dry and tangier than i would have expected but that aside its still a solid canned hefe.

12oz can poured into a weisse glass

A: nice hazy hay color, slightly rocky head but tall, diminishes fairly quickly but some does stay, sediment floating near the surface.

S: slight spicy clove character, pleasant aroma

T: nice clove with hints of banana and sweetness and subtle tartness. very nice flavor profile.

F: medium to light body with some fullness and richness, carbonation is good

D: good drinkability, easy to drink and very refreshing

Great lawn mower or golf beer, not a fine hefe but it doesn't need to be. Its qualities as a freshing beer is what makes this a keeper. I will be buying more.

Drank from a 12 fl oz (355 ml) can
Served in a weizen glass

Thanks to mikesgroove for including this as an extra in our trade.

The beer poured a super cloudy, burnt sienna color (darker than average for the style) with a tight, light tan, three-finger head that quickly faded to a frothy film. Clumps of lacing stuck all down the glass.

The aroma was rich and potent. Fruity and complex with a terrific sweet/tart quality. Bubblegum was immediately noticeable. Possibly some cotton candy and some Belgian candi sugar too. Super spicy and wheaty with dry, powdery notes. A bit of smoke was detectable as well.

The taste was wheaty, crisp and yeasty. A nice mix of sweet and tart fruitiness. In many ways, quite similar to the aroma. Sweet and malty up front. Notes of bubblegum came through strong. Spicy (clove-y) and citrusy in the center. A kiss of hops appeared on the crisp, spicy, tangy, semi-dry finish. Overall, rather interesting and complex.

The mouthfeel was medium bodied with an average carbonation. Decent but not quite as creamy or as full as I expected.

Drinkability was terrific. This is a super tasty, balanced and refreshing beer.

Many American wheat ales disguise themselves as true hefeweizens when indeed they are not. This unquestionably is not one of those beers. Overall, I consider this one of the most impressive hefeweizens I have tried to date and definitely the best one to come out of a can!

A: Orangey color, opaque, like the traditional unfiltered yeast was also mixed with some Tropicana Pure Premium, or something. Definitely caught me off guard. Not sure I was a fan of the appearance.

S: Smell is a mix of citrus and flowery hops. The cascade hops meld with the yeast very nicely.

T: The traditional banana of the hefe is replaced by an orange citrus, but the cloves are still there, just like they should be. It's an interesting combination, and I was a fan. The hops come through strong at the end, making it almost like a pale wheat ale, but with a ton more character.

M/D: Very light carbonation and a medium texture. Crisp and smooth hop finish makes the beer very enjoyable and drinkable. I would session this in a heartbeat.

Slight haze with an orange tint. Nice sized head with good lace action.

The aroma was of wonder bread and wheat. Mild citrus and very light banana and clove hints.

The taste was of bread, wheat, citrus notes and some spices.
A small bit of alcohol is present in the finish.
The feel is smooth, metallic notes with a mildly bitter finish. Medium carbonation and light body with decent drinkability.

Notes: Slightly bitter for a Hefe, but looking forward to these in hot weather. A good brew and you know metallic notes seem to be a given with cans. I would buy this again for the summer time.
Better as it warms.

taste is nice. hint of alcohol. low bitterness level. white bread and cracker. touch of orange peel and a hint of clove. a bit fruity. hint of caramel.

mouthfeel is good. nice light body. just over medium carbonation level.

drinkability is good. nice balance. not super exciting, but decent.

Poured a darker color than I'm used to for a Hefe, deep golden orange with a head that was gone quickly. No lacing. Smell was good with good dose of bananas and clove. Taste was very banana like with a sliver of sourness. THe feel was a little thicker than most hefe's I've had. Decent carbonation and overall a nice beer but not my favorite hefe in the world. Worth trying especially on a nice warm summer day.

12oz can, obtained via the pre-season football bif...consumed during the arizona-phili playoff game

appearance: poured into a lakefront pint glass, hazy orange-copper body, fluffy white crest with nice strong retention

smell: saison-like funk, yeast, green apple, clove and white pepper

taste: sweet and fruity, yeasty funk, green apple, corriander and white pepper. lacks a real punch

mouthfeel: oddly foamy throughout

drinkability: good

Very phenolic aroma with a nice spiciness. Seems more
Belgian than German. Slight banana. Fresh and nice.
Head is moderate and white, but really quite short-lived. Cloudy gold and a heavy look to the drink.
Boy this drink a lot more like a wit than a hefeweizen. Dry, spicy, malty character as well as wheat. Phenolic in flavor too. Strong yeast qualities.
Rather heavy mouthfeel combined with full, picky carbonation that provides a fullness.
I like this, but there are two things. First, the dryness is too heavy at times (not throughout the whole drink). Second, this is not a hefe. Beyond that, tasty and flavorful. Interesting mix of summer flavors with winter feel to the drink. Bell's has done a winter wit and this kinda' fits in that category.
This is scored on whether or not I like it and less on style issues.
Thanks Scott.

Poured a can of this into a shaker glass.

A: Pours a hazy, golden body with a thick, white head with pretty good retention and lacing.

S: A pretty sweet, malty smell with some slight banana notes.

T: A slightly metallic, malty taste with some metallic, alcohol aftertaste. The banana notes seemed to disappear and the alcohol was a bit much, especially for the style. As I drank it more, it seemed that it was a bit too much of a sweet juice as opposed to a malted beverage.

M: Seemed a bit overcarbonated and unimpressive.

D: Ok drinkability overall, but the taste and the mouthfeel were not very complimenting to each other. The carbonation was definitely overpowering and the taste seemed a little too juice-like and sweet.

Pours a cloudy gold color with thin white head. Aroma was kind of week with only a faint hint of citrus. Flavor was bland as well with a slight touch of lemon citrus. Very crisp with a very slight sour finish.

Big thanks to zathrus13 for sending this one via Eric. Pours a cloudy apricot color with a medium white head. The aroma is full of many different things; dried bananas, wheat, cloves, and some wheat. The flavor is also quite nice; a rich apricot and spicy mix, some yeast and dry wheat flavors, a bit of citrus, tangy lemons and some apple cinnamon too. A great full and creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a rich and tasty Hefe, and a nice example of the style.

Barvarian wheat beer with hersbrucker hops.

A: Poured a beautiful golden-orange that was cloudy by nature and was topped off by a bright white fluffy head that held up nicely leaving a moderate trail lacing.

S: The nose yielded a strong sense of wheat, bananas, cloves and some light bubblegum hints all combining for a very nice aromatic experience.

T: The flavor was sweet and spicy with lemony wheat, bananas, pineapples, and zesty dry oranges. There was some spicy citrus notes along with a light breadiness and good yeasty attributes.

M: light, creamy leaving a nice slick coating on the tongue of wheat and citrus all brought on by a crisp carbonation.

D: Overall a very nice spicy and sweet drinking weiss that you don't want to put down, very refreshing wit a nice lemony tang. Could drink this all night.

Got this beer from mikesgroove!

Pours a murky honey color, foamy tan head fades slowly, leaving some nice sheets of lacing behind. Great nose on this beer...lots of pepper and spice, banana, bready & yeast aromas. Taste follows right behind, a little more banana flavor than the nose would imply, some bitterness on the back of the tongue. Bubbly, refreshing, and drinkable as hell. This is good stuff.

Recieved as an "extra" from BRDC. I was pleased, as Sly Fox does not distribute here in CO.

Pours a dark shade of "orange juice" with about the same transparency. Head is pure white and the beer is obviously heavily carbonated. Think pilsner-style carbonation.

Smells spicy with maybe a hint of lemon. Very classic wheat-beer. Lacks the banana/clove aroma of a german hefe though.

Taste falls somewhere between a hefe and a wheat, with maybe a pils influence somewhere. It's an interesting combo. However, once past the novelty factor, it's rather basic and uninspiring. Typical spice and wheat malt flavor. Hops are mostly forgotten. Hint of fruitiness at the end.

Mouthfeel is great. Very grainy and very gelatinous. Heavy without being obnoxious. Everything I could want from a beer like this.

This would be a very drinkable beer, especially on a warm summer day. It's rather refreshing, I would say.

I'm glad I got to try this- one of my more favorite wheat-style beers for sure.
